A 4:00 a.m. wakeup, a great breakfast and the hunt began. Travis and his guide, Jacob headed for the " Dead Woman " Property. Bowdad and Jager guided by Scott ventured to the " Powerline Property." Curt and Jack guided by Chad took to " Greenridge." We soon found out that when God created Colorado he forgot to add oxygen to the mix. Our guides seemed to be able to go up hill without same!
This is stalk and bugle style hunt. We drove to our locations before daylight and at the crack of dawn the bugling began.
Travis stalked a 5x5 in the morning and came within seconds of a shot at 10 yards when the bull suddenly bolted and scurried off refusing to respond to the calls again. In the evening hunt he had a close encounter with a cow but passed on the opportunity.
Curt and Jack stalked a bull for more than three hours in the morning without getting close enough to get a look at him.
Jager and I heard some bugling from afar in the morning but the bull
did not come into our part of the mountain. We stalked and bugled for several
hours only to see a few cows that bolted silently as we topped a hill late
in the morning. Our guide felt they were bedded and saw us immediately
on our approach. In the afternoon Jager had one bugling for a while but
didn't get close.
