Message from Sandee Drink Driving is a cause that we have been working on at a members special request. Melissa aka Carebear lost her brother Mike to drink driving - please view her touching tribute to Mike - www.oocities.org/mikespieceofheaven/ People are becoming more and more aware of the dangers of drink driving, however so many deaths still occur on our roads unnessecarily each year, which affects the lives of so many family and friends. Please if you are drinking make sure you have a designated driver who is not drinking. Many places that serve alcohol have a designated driver policy where upon presenting your drivers licence you may receive free soft drinks. If you are with a friend who is drinking please don't let them drive. Help save lives - Don't drink and drive. |

Drink Driving is a major road safety problem Drink driving is predominantly a male problem. A quarter of alcohol- related driving offences from stationary random breath tests( RBTs) are for high range offences and over 85% of charges are for men. Alcohol related crashes tend to be highest for drivers in the 21 - 29 age group but is also high for the 17-39 age group. A high proportion of motorists can be categorised as "high-risk" drink-drivers and they are usually male, tend to underestimate the influence of alcohol on their driving and have less fear of being caught and/or crashing Alcohol affects all drivers because it is a depressant - it slows brain function. This reduces the ability to respond to situations, make decisions and take actions. Alcohol affects judgement of speed and distance . people can't tell accurately how fast they are going or how far they are away from others. Alcohol also gives a false sense of confidence, which makes people take risks they wouldn't normally take. |

To stay under .05 You are only legally able to drive ( or ride a motorcycle) with a very small amount of alcohol in your body.. Most drivers and riders have to stay below .05-,05 grams of alcohol for each 100 ml of blood. But many drivers, including most young people have to stay under .02. You have to stay under .02 if you; * have a learner's or provisional licence * are under 25 and have held a licence other than a learners licence for less than 3 yrs * are driving a bus, heavy vehicle or a vehicle with a load of dangerous materials. The more alcohol in the body the greater risk of crashing. At .05 you are as likely to crash than with a zero blood alcohol level. |
Key Messages .02 means no alcohol Plan ahead when going out. Organise your travel arrangements ( designated drivers, taxi's etc) Community attitudes to drink driving are slowly changing. Research and crash data show there has been a shift towards people deciding not to drink- drive because they believe it is the wrong thing to do and that this attitude is being maintained. |

Near to the door he paused to stand as he took his class ring off her hand all who were watching did not speak as a silent tear ran down his cheekand through his mind the memories ran of the moments they walked, and ran in the sand ( hand in hand) but now her eyes were so terribly cold, for he would never again have her to hold They watched in silence as he bent near and whispered the words, " I LOVE YOU" in her ear he touched her face and started to cry as he put on his ring and wanted to die And just then the wind began to blow as they lowered her casket into the snow This is what happens to man alive when friends let friends drink and drive |
