ONE MILLION BC

With Michael Gross, Chris Atkins and Greg Evigan.
This could be a sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth or a prequel ?
Maybe that’s not fair,This is supposed to be a bigger film and has more success already on Sci-Fi Channel.
Great cast, Script has some true moments and plenty of special effects.
Michael Gross( from TREMORS) has some sparks with a character that is allowed to breathe life into a mad scientist role.
Greg Evigan(BJ & THE BEAR) I believe was filming two movies a t once, And is noticeably In/out Burger-ish.
Christopher Atkins(DALLAS) has fun scenes and the major love interest for one of few females along for the trek.
We are disheartened on two points-
Griff Furst ,WHY WAS your name removed as director ?
The second, Saw these great behind the scenes on raptor and execution lacked, But T-REX was’ freaking beacon of hope for kewl visuals’.
Producers give more work to Stephen Blackehart , Geoff Meed and Eric Spudic ,’Wow’ gentlemen !

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH theasylum.cc w/ Greg Evigan & Dedee Pfeiffer
Sooo, This is a good movie(period).
I’ve enjoyed a lot of films from Theasylum peoples and this one seems to raise the bar, Congrats.
The special effects are amazing , Thanks to the co-directors being Special Effects Gods behind Tiny Juggernaut.
The cast is really something for a film ,You would have ill-thought guesses about.
Greg Evigan is perfect for his heroic turn and never looked better in action.
Dedee Pfeiffer steals the humorous lines with a passion , She could do much more with another script like this one.
The two sets we are to believe in worked, The stuff on the burrowing vehicle just plain flowed and the team at Center Of Earth made you not even miss a male touch . The monsters were strong and REAL, Truly works of art to this Sci-Fi eye !

STREET RACER
www.theasylum.cc
Starring : Dustin Fitzsimons & Clint Browning.
This movie seems almost like a classic western scenario,"The troubled bad guy makes a mistake and others have to pay his debt and after much effort he makes amends."
The car chases are good, Some things called SHIFTERS (seem like souped up go-karts) are better .
Couple of the actors stand out, Fitzsimons is exceptional-So real in part and journey man skills beyond his years.
Character actors have always been the strength of ANY film, Robert Pike Daniel has a 'Wilford Brimley' like panache to his craft, Wish I knew a mentor like him learning to drive.
To sum up, STREET RACER besides its 'Almost similar title' is a good time on dvd for fans of cars, racing and a REAL story that will having you cheering the hero and clapping at the villain in the end.

CULT MOVIE
Starring Lloyd Kaufman and Gerard Marzilli
http://www.myspace.com/ritterinla
JP Ritter has made a timely film, That doesn't have anything to do with today's headlines( Or not so during production, But should be rushed to Ebay and Amazon.com).
Ritter probably thought he was making a smart poke at Waco or Jim Jones and here is a Real Cult in the news giving him a MOCKBUSTER !
The camera work is surreal, Really I'm not sure what to call it " Fire Fuel Vision " or Ritter-O- Rama ?
There is ample violence and language and nice looking female cult members dressed in all kinds of scanty.
Now, That poster damn it, Ritter, It sucks, seriously not to mince words, YUCK !
Never understood the appeal of the character of FBI Boss, Dung Jarvis, Kind of like Jay and Silent Bob(c) in every Fire Fuel opus.
So, To sum up, We are impressed by effort, We're actually nervous when Ritter and his cameraman got shot.

ALLAN QUATERMAIN: TEMPLE OF SKULLS
Theasylum.cc
AQ:TOS has a look, Because there aren't any stars this film has a MORE real feel.
Okay the lead actor does have a slight resemblance to Harrison Ford, But that's not a bad thing.
The music throughout is really good and perfectly suited for each scene.
The villain has a Angus Scrimm/Boris Karloff look that works very well.
Actually filmed in AFRICA by Mark Atkins, We believe his first time directing,
Although he is Theasylum Director Of Photography to go to.
Two closing points:
Theasylum has gotten away from nudity to enhance its sales to Sci-Fi Channel and THEN Allan Quatermain comes along with its National Geographic school of Hotties.
That Damned "Beheading Claw", This reminded me fondly of The Flying Gullotine" of my filmic youth.

Brad Paulson's RESERVOIR DRUNKS

(pictured Paul LeMat,Richard Dreyfuss and Harvey Keitel lookalikes)
http://www.myspace.com/bradpaulson
RESERVOIR DRUNKS
Starring: Mr.Stoli, Mr. Cuervo, Mr. Zima, Mr. Kahlua, Mr. Glen Fiddich and Joe Estevez as Poppa Joe.
This comedy short is pure genius, IF You're Drunk, LOL !
There is this great set-up which kind of reminds you of Tarantino Touch, IF you squint.
During this CRIME, Which is skipped , The partners fall off the wagon that Estevez put them on.
There is even a MADD Mother doing a lap dance after non-consensual guzzling.
The best part is the K-Booze radio station playing WONDERFUL song parodies by Russell Holsapple.

VACANT HOUSE
vacanthouse.angelfire.com
So, You've moved into a new home and friends wanna throw a seance-themed house warming.
Was worried at first that this would be a Talking Heads scene with ' I'm a killer' because... BUT, Soon switched to a WHO IS THE KILLER thriller.
The house is haunted because a real estate agent gave in to the seduction by a 'door to door hooker' with Vacant House fetish.
This tragedy has given to a murder coverup, And definitely no escrow declaration,VACANT HOUSE is haunted !
Ray & Migdalia Etheridge have done it again, With no budget they still tell a taut story with minimal effects.
One of the oddest things about their productions is FLORIDA scenery, Seriously a few paces from VACANT HOUSE location and it's like a jungle.

WAR OF THE WORLDS 2 : The Next Wave
With Christopher'Kid' Ried and C. Thomas Howell
(Also directed by him).
Theasylum.cc
No other studio HAS EVER attempted a sequel to WOTW, Theasylum has proved it deserved more attention and besides C. Thomas Howell owns the role over Tom Cruise version !
Those tripoded aliens are back and they plan on harvesting The Earth and its inhabitants. The 'Tiny Juggernaut' creations are truly menacing and have some unusual ways are ridding themselves of pesky humans.
C. Thomas has some nice backup from Chris ' Kid ' Ried in a almost comic relief turn, And C. Thomas' Son is great in debut.
The cover to dvd has those warm Theasylum covers that jump off BB shelf and Film Legend (c) Fred Olen Ray has started using.
..Now about the ending, COME ON ---A PART 3 ???

Bram Stoker's WAY OF THE VAMPIRE
With Rhett Giles, Denise Boutte.
Theasylum.cc
Lots of atmosphere in this little pic that could, Think it's only 3 years before The Next Wave.
Rhett Giles took this role and perfected in 'Draculas Curse'.
Denise Boutte steals EVERY scene she is in as Vampiress and truly came into her own in 'DEATH VALLEY : Revenge Of Bloody Bill'.
Vampire and hero have a connected past and both are immortal, Until modern times reunite them.
Soundtrack is by SCORPIONS Ralph Rieckermann, And it sets the tone for a film that tries really hard to give the viewer a feeling of gothic vibe at choice times.

2012: DOOMSDAY

2012: DOOMSDAY
www.faithfilms.cc
with Cliff De Young, Dale Midkiff and Ami Dolenz.
Theasylum was involved in this film, Wow ,What a difference a message can make.
A great cast and a awesome story that takes place all over the world, Given the scope and all 85 minutes to tell it, Director Everhart done well.
Weather is changing, We get floods, earthquakes, volcanoes .. Could it be the end of the world ?
Multiple lives and stories intertwine to reveal the possible future of mankind.
Ever since 'The Apocalypse' also from Faith Films, Its kind of wild to watch good people disappear in a Rapture.

LEGION OF THE UNDEAD

LEGION OF THE DEAD
www.theasylum.cc
with Bruce Boxleitner and Zach Galligan
Written & Directed by Paul Bales
…Having interviewed Paul Bales and seen this is on Theasylum Top Three DVD sellers, This critic was curious about LOTD !
When you watch the 'Making Of..' it gives away some of the secrets to how production came together, Theasylum has the second best BEHIND THE SCENES after Charles Band's FULL MOON .
The cast is great ,Of course Boxleitner and Galligan one expect their best, But the lead villain is a Female Mummy- Claudia Lynx and she is perfect.
Rhett Giles again turns in a journeyman effort, Except as a right arm to mummy henchman.
Once you accept this is happening in US, Not Egypt then you enjoy all the mummies running around and unusual deaths.
Paul Bales (look for our interview) is still writing and producing, But could direct again.

MONSTER

www.Theasylum.cc
with Sarah Lieving
Okay, Lets get over the CLOVERFIELD connection, Move on nothing to see here.
Got into the rhythm of MONSTER , By thinking it was like that BIGFOOT footage that has made the rounds. Makes one feel you are there and therefore its as real as your mind would allow.
Even the credits are done as if a REAL documentary, That's a stretch that may / may not pay off.
Lots of plugs for YOUTUBE, Guess this counts as another one.
So, How did the camera battery last for 90 minutes let alone the days they supposedly filmed ?
Great cover art and the few, Very few scenes of creature.
The leads were really good, Considering they had to carry the films as Scared Talking Heads.
Its funny to think most of it was actually filmed in Japan, Money could have been used to show the MONSTER some more.

Legend Of The SANDSQUATCH
www.1313fx.com
Starring Trent Haaga and Amanda Ward.
Directed By Lola Wallace
Re-inventing the Bigfoot cinema, That's a task, This film does it with flourish.
Sandsquatch as a character is a make-up nightmare that seemed welcomed to the challenge. Unique look, And camera perspective makes it seem huge and the final scene is truly inspired.
There is a garage band that kind of bothered this critic and won us over at their deaths.
Trent Haaga plays the son of Lloyd Kaufman,They know how to hunt creatures.
Amanda Ward has a small role,But steals the scene as a True Scream Queen.
There were a lot of night shots and most times worked to a eerie advantage.
Is SANDQUATCH scary as most creature films, Oh yeah and bloodier then some,This may be over the heads of some, LOL !
