| SAT I Scholastic Aptitude Test This is a multiple choice test typically taken in the spring of the junior year or during the senior year. (students may take them earlier if desired). The test is administered at LACS in June, November and January. Other test dates are available at Watertown High School and other locations. The test is composed of two sections, Verbal and Math, with scores ranging from 200 to 800 on each section. The highest possible combined score is 1600. There is a penalty for wrong answers. If a student has no idea of the correct answer, he/she should leave the question blank. | SAT II Scholastic Aptitude Subject Tests The subject tests are offered in several different areas and are required by some colleges for consideration for admission. They are offered on the same dates as the SAT I, however, a student cannot do both the SAT I and SAT II on the same test date. Like the SAT I, the test scores range from 200-800. Students must check with the colleges they are interested in to see if SAT II tests are required. Students may take them at any time although they are typically taken during the senior year. | ACT American College Test Typically taken by in the spring of the junior year or fall of senior year. Multiple Choice test consisting of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. Scores on each subject area range from 1-36. The 4 subject test scores are averaged to arrive at a Composite score. There is no penalty for guessing, therefore a student should answer every question. LACS gives the exam every year in June and October. The test is available in Watertown on different dates. Students may register using a paper application (available in guidance) or online (link below). | PSAT/NMSQT for College Bound Juniors (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) This is a practice for the SAT as well as a test which allows students to compete in the National Merit Scholarship Contest. Typically given in the fall of the junior year although students could take it earlier if desired. Measures verbal, math and writing skills students have developed over the course of their education. | PLAN Test for College Bound Sophomores This is a practice for the ACT test plus it contains an interest inventory for students. Typically given in the fall of the sophomore year. Measures skills in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. Registration is completed through the guidance office. | ASVAB for Juniors and Seniors Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery. Optional test for Juniors or Seniors containing an Aptitude Battery of 10 subtests plus an Interest Inventory. Typically administered at LACS in the fall. Required for Entrance into the Military, however, also available to other students who wish to learn more about themselves.
