The purpose of the "Discovery" zone is to challenge Guides with new experiences and adventure.

So at first glance this is...
... going away from home without parents for the first time
... climbing
... watersports
... other adventurous activities
... travelling abroad

But on stopping to think about it, not all new experiences are what is generally termed "adventurous" and not all adventures are big or outdoors.  Of course these "first thoughts" play a big part in Discovery but it might also include...

... being the leader of a group of guides for the first time
... organising something
... lighting a fire
... going out on the street with only her peers and no adult
... producing a great looking craft (a new experience for some)

You get the idea?  That's how I take it anyway.  So almost anything can come under this zone!  Just a few ideas...
