Ren McCormick moves to Beaumont, BFE, wih is recently divorced mother. He's quickly lableled a troulemaker outsider because of his love for rock music and dancing. Catching the eye of the local wild-child-preacher's-kid Ariel, Ren first fights the kids, then the townspeople to be able to hold a senior class dance.

John Lithgow is featured in a very memorable performance as the local minister determined to save his daughter and the rest of the town's youth from the fate that took took his son in a crossing-the-state-line-to-go-to-a-rock-concert car accident. A fleshier (and better looking) Sarah Jessica Parker is featured as Rusty, a too-hip-for-that-small-town sidekick.

They actually made this into a Broadway musical. I haven't seen a script or a score,
or the show, so I don't know how it is ... but ... ew.
