Recycle paper products, and buy recycled paper, cut down on the use of all paper products
Have you ever seen note book paper that you can buy made from recycled paper?
Most recycled lined paper is not white but other pastel colors, and is not loose leaf:
Use washable cloth dish towels and napkins instead of throwaway paper towels and napkins.
Talk to your schools, find out if you can use this type of paper instead of the plain white lined, if you cannot
ask them to make this option available to you, this would also be a good teaching lesson for kids
Recycle aluminum cans, or better yet switch to reusable glass beverage containers.
Recognize: that using aluminum cans or other aluminum products encourages the development of more aluminum
mines and smelters in the Amazon basin, powered by dams!!
These dams flood large areas of tropical forests and displace indigenous people from their lands.
Some states have a deposit that you have to pay on all beverage containers, this deposit is given back to you when you return the bottles or cans. This is not only used for recycling, it is also used as a means to prevent the littering of those states. This is useful in solving problems not only for the state but also for our environment!!!!
To encourage this you can write to your government!!!!!!!
Buy an artificial tree that will last you for many christmas' to come, better yet buy a living tree in a tub for later planting out side.
Take a moment and picture this in your mind! Picture the day after christmas driving in town, look around and see all the trees that are DEAD and will not be used... Picture the day after new years, and all the trees DEAD at the curbside! Think about this when you go to buy your next years christmas trees!
I know a lot of you are thinking, christmas isn't the same without the fresh smell of a tree! Think of all the good
this will do!! Think of how there might not be a Christmas at all in the future if we CONTINUE the cutting of ALL trees!
Remember where these things come from when you think about buying them, and think about the
damage done to the tropical Forests, when these things are captured for our own enjoyment!
For every 1 tropical bird that reaches the pet shop for sale, AT LEAST one bird DIES in transit!
Remember it is the dandelion that we are given by a child, that we treasure the most!
Do not buy items such as furniture made from woods such as teak, mahogany, and plywood containing mahogany.
Claims that wood products do not use tropical hardwoods are almost impossible to verify. If you must buy such hard woods, look for the Good-Wood Seal given by Friends of the Earth!
Plant Trees, take care of them so they survive! In doing all of these things and more we can help in making the world a better and safer place for our children! If we all work together there WILL be a future!
