Patsy Foster-Philly country music legend
Patsy Foster made a name for herself and also country music in Philadelphia by simply playing all over town, making a great CD "Long Cold War" and just by sticking to the stuff. She could hold an audience in the palm of her hand and had a playlist of over 300 songs in her head.
The 1st time I saw Patsy Foster was at "Biddle's Cafe" in Ambler, there were 2 people from Warner Brother's Nashville, who had flown up just to see her. I was deeply impressed at the emotion she put into her music and the great country voice that she had, reminding one of Patsy Cline.Actually,Patsy Foster was a stage name she used for years, which she dropped towards the end of her career, her real name is Kelleen Cogan. Patsy came from Patsy Cline and Foster came from the fact that she looks an awful lot like Jody Foster. Patsy mixed her coffeehouse sets with mostly original tunes a lot from her very well done CD "Long Cold War" and also country songs from every era.
Patsy played in a band originally called the Patsy Foster Band, then went out on her own mostly. She could be found a lot at McCloskey's in Ardmore playing with Walt Rich on lead guitar.Walt Rich was the Bass player in the original Patsy Foster Band.
Her CD was produced by Eric Bazillian of Hooters  fame. She had 10 great original songs and 2 cover tunes. It had a couple of songs get good airplay on XPN,U. of Pa.'s radio station, which is big in Philly.
2 awards that Patsy won were in 1996,Billboard magazine named her as one of the top ten unsigned artists in the country. Philadelphia magazine named her Philly's Best Country singer the same year.
Presently Kelleen is not performing, but my hope is we will see her grace the coffeehouses and clubs of Philly one day again. Thanks Kelleen for your music and inspiration.-Jim Moulton
