I first heard "Weird Al" Yankovic when I was leaving on vacation with my Grandpa & Grandma sometime in '83 or '84 (I would have been 6 or 7). My Grandpa always listened to Polka tapes in the car, and as he was choosing his music, he threw a tape to me in the backseat. He said that he bought it thinking it was Frankie Yankovic (The Polka King - no relation to Al, by the way) and when he started playing it, he realized he had gotten the wrong accordian-playing Yankovic. The tape was Al's first album...I listened to the tape and have been a diehard fan ever since. In fact, I would say that I am just about as big a "Weird Al" fan as I am a KISS fan...and for those of you that know me, that's saying quite a bit.
Not only have I been lucky enough to see Al and his extremely talented band (Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz on Drums, Steve Jay on Bass, Jim West on guitars, & Ruben Valtierra on Keyboards) in concert 6 or 7 times, I've also gotten to know Bermuda a little bit via e-mail and he made it possible for some friends and I to go backstage after two shows and meet him, Al, and Jim.
