Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar and Bass Syndicate. We are a new student organization going on our third year, registered with The University of Texas at Austin in early December 2000. The goal of this organization is quite simply to provide an outlet for those students interested in acoustic guitar and acoustic (or electric) bass. We try get together every week or two to play, learn, and have a good time. It seems that every week we have someone new drop in, so if you're new, you're probably not going to be the only one...

Here's how we started...

I attended a meeting of another on-campus guitar club (now defunct), as I am primarily a bassist, and found only those interested in technical hard rock. While, they played very well, it just wasn't my kind of music, so I went home and started looking for something a little less aggressive. To my surprise, I didn't find a single organization that catered to acoustic guitar players and bassists. Now I lived in Jester long enough to tell you that there are far too many college students hacking away at Bob Dylan (or more likely, Dave Matthews) tunes with seemingly little or no idea how to play.

With that in mind, I started teaching a lessons (mostly guitar) around the dorms. Before long, I realized that there are very few among us of us who can afford $10 a week for anything other than sweet, sweet ramen. So I ended up doing group lessons for free, and eventually we just started a club.

Now, about the club in particular... There are no dues... because let's face it, a real student is living farther below the poverty line than any drag rat.
They're all just rebelling against their middle-class suburban upbringing, you know...
And yes, they all drive economical little cars with Fugazi stickers on the back.

Anyway, we'd be happy to have you stop in anytime and attend a meeting. They are completely informal and open to the public. Don't hesitate to contact me this summer so that I can e-mail you about club updates and get you on our mailing list. I hope I've answered all of your questions, but if not, feel free to call me at 769-6486, or email me anytime.
