In the kitchen of a Whitman Massachusetts country inn, the first chocolate chip cookie emerged in
1937. Simple experiments led to a recipe combining bits of chocolate candy with a kind of butter cookie
cookie dough resulting in a delicious mixture that offered the crunchiness of a cookie with
a taste of chocolate candy in every bite. Obviously the cookies were a hit at the inn and
wherever else the recipe spread. Chocolate chip cookies have remained an American homemade treat.
My children's childhood memories (and mine) will always include the first Fall day back to school and their subsequent return back home at the end of the day, to our
home filled with the warmth of the oven and the sweet smell of that concoction of ingredients that could only be identified (the nose knows!) as chocolate chip cookies.
This web site is lovingly devoted to the best, most favorite, awesome and yummy cookie....chocolate chip. Just as there are many kinds of people, so too are the myriad of recipes for chocolate chip cookies.
I will try to remain as much a purist, sticking to the subject of this page, however, if I digress and give recipes or links to you for other food items containing chocolate chips
(hey, have to plug Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream!) and may have to share other cookie recipes that have chocolate of any kind, including chips in them. School has started and the best way to show my children how much I missed them today is taking out of the oven, freshly made cookies that are still warm and gooey, paired with a glass of cold milk. Between that and homemade bread, they will always remember you:)
Think that my love for chocolate chip cookies is weird?...well it is!
