for the

Open Heaven Exhibition

In St Aldate's Church, Tuesday May 13th 2003 to Saturday May 31st, 12-3pm weekdays (except Thursday), Saturdays 10am-2pm, and 2-6pm; Private View Monday 12th May, 7pm.

Milner-Gulland believes that the artistic element in visual compositions consists in the enshrinement of some element of a truth that resides in a realm beyond us, and much of his works aspires to signify his philosophical search for truth through the attempt to capture this, beginning with the truth of the actually existing, visually manifest proportions and features of the subject, and developing into the cryptic truths embodied by atmosphere. In his artwork, the artistic effect is something that is superposed upon the representation of what actually exists.
