The Problem
Original Specification
In an conventional bulb a filament is glowing. The Xenon bulb (gas discharge lamp D2S or D2R) however is igniting an electric arc, comparable with electric welding. The high voltage necessary is provided by an electronic ballast.
The Xenon bulb can be placed in a conventional reflector. Because of limited space inside the headlamp I decided for a projection module.
In a projection module the light from the bulb is amplified by the reflector, than passes a shutter (made of sheet metal) and a glass lens to create the asymmetric light pattern on the road. This works the same way as a slight viewer.
