May God Rest His Soul In Peace

05/08/02

So another year goes around, how is everyone's lives? I know this year has been peppered with tragedy after tragedy. Though we are devastated, I think it is safe to say that we are that much stronger from these tragedies. And though so many students' lives are not here on earth, it is a comfort to know that they are watching us from up above.

I'm horrified to hear of the tragedy that has yet again plagued the students of Herricks High School. Earlier this week, four of our students were killed during a freak accident while drag racing. Students, hear the cry of these people who were killed. Please don't follow in their footsteps. There are so many dreams that they have unfulfilled. Look at the sorrow their families are going through. Isn't this a true tragedy? Do you think heaven was ready for them?

This is what happens when people our age, inexperienced drivers to say the least, try to defy gravity and the laws of Newton. What were they thinking? It makes me so angry when I think, no I KNOW, that this could have been avoided. That their lives might still be here today had they been smarter, had they not let their pride get to them. I know that the passengers of the car must have spent the last three seconds of their life pleading for the driver to stop.

I don't care if you are offended by this. I am even more outraged that so many lives have to die before people begin to remember that people are just as vulnerable in cars. When I hear the students squealing and peeling out of the parking lot thinking that they are God, I hope they remember the fate of Trudy, Jeff, Brian, and John.

They didn't have to die. And neither does anyone else by drag racing without experience.

One year since the tragedy happened. I am still shocked and horrified that TC is no longer here with us, not here to shine his smile on us, to laugh and cry with us. Unbelievably, it has been one year. One year of pain, of mourning. But we have given TC a special place in our heart and we know that he's all of our guardian angels. Let us pay our respects to his family.
In the wake of the horrible horrible terrorist attack on the Twin Towers today in the morning, I would like to pay my respects to all the people out there who have lost ones, or loved ones who are unaccounted for. I know that TC is watching all of us, to make sure that each and every one is safe and sound. Let us pray for those who are injured, hurt, and those who have lost their lives to this tragedy.

You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent!
O Lord, do not be far from me!
Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defense,
for my cause, my God and my Lord!
Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
according to your righteousness, and do not lett
them rejoice over me.
Do not let them say to themselves,
"Aha, we have our heart's desire."
Do not let them say, "We have swallowed you up."
