5 DAY ENDURO 2002
I geared up at the ready point. I was wearing webbing, ghillie jacket, with a bandolier holding spare mags and rounds. I cocked my SPORTER ("jackel") and pushed the safety backwards. I had no other guns, so was ready for a sniper/scout role. I approached the rest of CHARLIE team. Looking around, I checked my team mates (TMA): PAPABEAR was rigged up and carried "Vassili" (his sniper rifle) and MONGO his MP5K. SPECTRE jerked his BERGEN onto his back and picked up his trusty SUPERMAS. JIN (aka MANTIS) stood waiting, PDW hanging from it's sling. Playing alongside TMA were 3 BUSHPIGS. APOC looked knackered already (had not slept the previous evening) so lent on his STYER. His sniping partner, LONEPIG, cradled his APS SV, giving the thumbs up. NAPOLEON was OK and switched on as usual. He checked his M4 then nodded he was ready. Forming a huddle, we arranged our MAP CO-ORDINATES into code and pre arranged 4 channels for our radios. We were well equiped with a map and radio per man. Every player also had a hands free kit, although we decided not to use VOX settings. Next we discussed our last minute plan: thought up by SPECTRE and myself a couple of days before the event: CLICK HERE

Flipping a coin, we were allocated the WEST exit to the SAFE ZONE. Making our way there, were checked our mags. Safeties were kept on, as there was an agreed 30 minute CEASE FIRE at the beginning of the ENDURO. GAME ON! Moving off, I signalled APOC to go to ground and cover the rear. The rest of us moved 50 yards into SCAREY CORNER and observed the fields around BEAR's BUNKER. Deciding that we needed to concentrate our efforts I got on the radio and instructed PAPABEAR to rig a booby trap on the main path, while APOC informed me that he could see no movement. PAPABEAR finished rigging the trip wire and pointed it out to us, as we moved past. Indeed, we made our way back to the TARGET RANGE and picked up APOC. I told him on the radio to move out EAST (along the river) on point. 15 minutes of the CEASE FIRE remained. Moving another 100m along the path, APOC radioed in, "Contact 50m to our front. BRAVO are in the treeline and are not moving." Thinking quick, I knew we needed to break contact before the end of the CEASE FIRE. "Pull Back all CHARLIE callsigns. We need to Bug out now!" Signalling PAPABEAR to move off SOUTH, I waited for the stragglers. JIN came into view and I signalled him on.
"APOC get out of there now! You need to catch up quickly." I was now the last man on the patrol, only APOC was somewhere behind. Keeping up with the rest of CHARLIE, I couldn't stop to wait for our straggler. Moving into a dip near the GORSE, we set up an all round defence. "Come in APOC. I need you to head to co-ordinates ??-?? and rendezvous with us there." "Roger" JIN moved off to the edge of the GORSE and set up watch downhill. NAPOLEON and LONEPIG covered the FLAG and set up a TAG ZONE. CEASE FIRE over, we all flicked fire selects off SAFETY. PAPABEAR, SPECTRE and myself began to move east with all of our kit. Hoping to secure our STASH location in the gorse.
