HAND SIGNALS Traditionaly, Airsofters often use hand signals to communicate silently or in the heat of a firefight. Even though modern radio communication systems are common, HAND SIGNALS are not obsolete. Indeed they have unique features, that differ from verbal or radio comm's. Radioes may be scanned and transmitions monitored, but HAND SIGNALS can only be read by players within LOS. Thus a team working close together, can communicate often while still retaining radio silence. Hence, they are free to discuss contacts, before they happen, not tipping off their quarry. Yet handsignals fall down at night or should players get out of LOS. Hence using HANDSIGNALS can be a great step in managing to keep formation as a coherent team. Basic rules of hand signals include making sure you get your teammates attention before sending the handsignal. To get their attention quickly (often needed) make a tiny noise (ie. tap on your gun, click fingers, etc....) Any hand signals you recieve, should be past down the line, unless only specific to you (ie. if your team mate signals a contact, then you must pass the signal on ASAP.) If you understand the signal, then reply with "OK" otherwise signal "REPEAT". As well as those signals listed, others can be employed. Come up with your own. Just make sure your team mates know them too. Here are some examples........ Hand Signal Meaning Both hands clasped together Set up Ambush Point to muzzle of gun Attack Both index fingers and thumbs touching Plan A Thumb and index finger, around eyeball Observe/spot String the signals together, to form coherent sentences. For example: Point at own chest, then index and middle finger pointing to both eyes, then hold up 3 fingers, then thumb down then extend arm towards direction, then arm extended. This would translate as : I, can see, 3, opponents, over there, at long range. Handsignal QUIZ: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 You must look the answers up yourself on the HANDSIGNALS page. |
