This webpage is intended to show the standard that Viking costume is expected to look like in the UK.
The subject is my mate Thorolf The Tall and the photos were taken on sat 12th October at Battle Abbey in Sussex. It's only fair to point out that the subject was not warned and had just come off the battlefield when I asked him to pose.

The first one shows a general view. The overkyrtle is wool with tablet briad at the wrist neck and hem. The underkyrtle is a linen, a lovely shade of pink and is undecorated. The trousers are red and also made of linen (but a heavier cloth).
The helmet is a 'creased' conical made from one piece of metal. The originals were made in two halves and the ridge was the weld line.
The shirt is all riveted and made of mild steel. the
The boots are made of sealskin sewn to a leather 'shell'.
The shield is about 26 inches across and made of marine plywood. It is then edged with rawhide which is nailed all round. The boss is steel and stamped not spun.
In addition to the short spear and Seax you can see he is carrying a sword in a sheath.
