I snapped this photo with my trusty Mavica MVC-FD100 at 9:30 AM shortly after the stopped falling and the clouds broke. The picture is of an old abandoned storage barn approximately 300 yards from my home. I couldn't resist snapping this photo because I love the contrasts of the white snow, the carolina blue sky emerging in the background, and the reddish hue of the dead leaves still attached to the small tree. As the first snow of 2002 arrives in the Smokies of western North Carolina, visibility was measured in feet (and cold ones at that). Photo taken on Cowee Mountain at around 3300 feet. Highway 321 was closed temporarily when a tractor trailor hit black ice and jack-knifed in the middle of a winding mountain road.
