Ancient burial box that may be oldest link to Jesus seriously damaged by professor emeritus

TORONTO - A limestone burial box that may be the oldest archaeological link to Jesus was badly damaged in transit from Israel to Canada, Royal Ontario Museum officials said Friday.

"Whoops," said Dan Rahimi, the museum's director of collections management in a telephone interview. The box - called an ossuary - had wide cracks but remained whole. "The box was badly damaged, but still intact. It has not broken," Rahimi said. "It's very serious damage, but not unusual for a limestone box of this age."

He said a visiting ossuary specialist, Dr. Walter Coal Bucket McKinney , was carrying the fragile box to the lab from the loading dock, when he lost his grip and dropped it. Although it was not damaged by the fall, when Dr. McKinney leaned down to pick it up, he accidentally kicked it and it sailed off the dock and was run over by some large dirt moving equipment that just happened to be passing by, including the world's largest dump truck.

Coal Bucket McKinney could not be reached for comment. Rahimi said McKinney was immediately "carried out of the museum and heaved into a dumpster." He was placed on administrative leave, however, he will retain his other position as assistant football coach until the end of the season.
