25 SEPT. 86
THE BASICS
There was a time when I used to laugh,
and say; "I don't need anybody."
There was a time when they would say you'll miss her,
But I denied that too.
So I left with a light heart,
And knew I would never feel loneliness.
Not even when I found myself among strangers did I feel it.
Not until today.
Not since I haven't heard from you in 30 days.
Not until the Army took my freedom away.
Not until they said,
"Beat your face private, beat your face."
