The Vampyre of Berwick |
The story of the Vampyre of Berwick was reported by William of Newburgh in his "Chronicles", completed in 1196 A.D. It was during the 12th century in a town called Berwick, England. A wealthy citizen died there. After his death, townspeople reported seeing his body at night, wandering through the once peaceful streets of their town. They broke out into hysteria, afraid that they would be attacked by a plague brought on by this living dead being. Soon the body was dismembered and burned by the townspeople in hopes of protecting themselves. Although the body was not reported being seen afterward, a strange disease blanketed the town, bringing death to many of the townspeople. |
