A Rose Among The Stones

For Lisa and Patrick, Remembering Emily Faith

Sometimes life's path is rocky.
We may stumble, we may fall.
But if we're watching closely,
Hope's a beauty, growing tall.
When my baby slipped away,
No stone ever seemed as hard.
It seemed an avalanche had found me
Right here in my own backyard.
I knew I could never stand it.
Could not hold up under the weight.
It would break me...I would crumble.
Such would be my tortured fate.
But the Gardener would not have it.
I am His, he'll see me through.
He holds my hand, He always guides me.
And he shows me what to do.
It was in my sorrow I found it,
Shining through my tears and groans.
Soft petals of hope, enfolded,
A lovely rose among the stones.
A soft and gentle pastel promise
That holds firm against the stone;
Our Savior will not forsake us,
He holds us as His very own.
Whatever stones we may encounter,
As we go along the way,
All's not lost, and not forgotten.
He'll bring us together again, one day.
