Waiting for the Sting

By: Gwen Flowers

I know I should feel something....
But it all seems so unreal.
Like moving through the clouds of dreams,
There's just nothing to feel.
It's like the tiny second
When you're shaving, and you slip.
The razor slices, tears your skin
And blood begins to drip.
But there's a breath that comes between
The cutting and the pain.
When, in surprise,You only watch
The blood swirl down the drain.
And though, I'm feeling nothing,
I know, soon, comes the sting.
The grieving and the sorrow,
And whatever it will bring.
So, I'm not quite certain
That I really want to feel.
And I'm not sure I want to know
That this nightmare is real
