That's not a Sheba!!!
Sheba Mini Yaks are basically a semi long-haired Abyssinian. Unlike the other long-haired breeds though, the hair must only cover their feet. Unfortunately they are classed as a coarse coat and not a long-hair (in NSW) and like the Rex, it takes some time to get its desired coarseness and sometimes it doesn't come at all!
They are a very friendly breed which makes them ideal for pets but they MUST be handled often as they can be very flighty. When I first got Benny, I couldn't catch him easily and he wouldn't stop moving once I had him out of his cage, but now he's easier to catch, he lies on his back and enjoys a belly rub and stretches his neck up to get a chin scratch!
So, what are they?
What's their temperament like?
How do I look after them?
If you're showing a Sheba, it's a good idea to keep a Sheba in his own cage without a friend as they may chew his coat.
Shebas need to be brushed everyday to keep his coat tangle free but they don't need to be wrapped like some other long-haired breeds.
If you give them lots and lots of cuddles and TLC, you'll have a very nice Sheba.
How do I show a Sheba?
Shebas should be presented without a part and in a natural rosetted state. A little back combing may help with giving the coat a lift. Judges like a cobby shape and like all other breeds, the bigger the better! Unfortunately in NSW being shown under a coarse coat and being so rare, they never win a Best in Group. They'd never beat a Rex in coarseness.

Joon took out Best of Breed at the Sydney Royal on the 26th March 2002. A couple of days after the Royal, she also decided to do the flying leap out of her cage and into the mud nearby. She too had a haircut. SHE WAS COVERED IN MUD!
Benny again at 7 months old, after his first haircut! Just starting to get coarse now! Quite often he gives himself a haircut and rips out clumps of hair.
These Shebas below, were bred by Fiona from Kingscountry Stud in Victoria and are owned by Andrew Swift.
