 Love the Rain

Each time a gentle droplet of moisture falls on the skin
I wonder why I'm prone to complain and grumble then.
I know it's time for cleansing something in this world.
I have loved the fresh aftermath since I was a little girl.

But the rolling of the thunder before the lightening strikes
The harsh abrasive hurting, of fierce winds coming nigh,
Remind me, of the storms in the past I have had to fight.
Waking me from slumber no rest throughout those times.

Today I stop to ponder what purpose was God's intent.
To make the storms so vicious when my world was quiet content.
I understand, now, as I never did before
Those storms were sometimes opening or closing of some doors.

To the alarm of an approaching storm I often close my ears
So, God must make the thunder to disturb my sleeping years.
When I awake to thunder then the flash of light, I see
God shows me in a flicker who, what, where and how I should be.

Sometimes I would listen to the storm in another place
I say the storm, passing over, was His saving grace.
But maybe the one it falls upon was a warning to see.
And that they could one day know how to rescue me.

I have weathered storms of hail, blizzard, tornado, and drought.
Lung cancer, spousal abuse and hunger I lived throughout.
I was never alone and I have some scared traces
The fiercer the rains of life the more protection God's places.

Now when the clouds of life begin to gather
And I know for sure, there will be foul weather;
I welcome each lightening strike
God's power I see in that flash of light.

The gentle rains still cleanse me in a refreshing tender way.
I welcome them with gladness day after day.
I still sometimes need the scrubbing of the swirling gritty wind
My soul needs a scouring and God must wake me from within.

I love the rain and I don't pretend
To understand all the storms or what they meant.
But one thing I know for sure
God is real and his cleansing pure.
