About Me

My Motherland is Nemiah Valley B.C. I was hired by "Xeni Gwet'n"as a Social Worker in 1993. My family and I moved, and the spiritual journey began. My employment fueled my art. The awareness of my own cultural roots had been intensified by the involvement in native gatherings. I am known for the mysterious way the images of my art touch one's heart. I have translated oral tradition and recreated the image of these stories of Chilcotin Legends in oil/acrylic paint. Born in 1962, a self-taught painter. One of the first Chilcotins to express culture in paint, and to present work to the world via internet. My visions like ancient Chilcotin taboos, have turned into dreams of the future, coming alive on the canvas. All artwork is copyrighted by artist: Barbara Derrick
