They made us miss the bus or run home from school.   Grown men and women, many with funny makeup and names--singing, dancing, playing dress-up.  They invited us into their pretend world, and we lovingly welcomed them into our homes and hearts.  They validated our play.  And all these years later, we still remember...and smile.
