COMMUNITY RESOURCES - (UK)


There are many organisations which offer support, information and assistance. The following list covers some of the them. If these organisations cannot offer you the kind of support you need, ask them to recommend another that may be suitable.


COMMUNITY INFORMATION
The Citizens Advice Bureaux are excellent sources of information about local social services agencies, support groups, courses, legal rights, housing, welfare and health issues. The CAB also offers a free legal advice service in many areas (by appointment) and a free budgeting service. Check your local directory for the phone number.
COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH
Many hospitals have special mental health units where free counselling is offered to people who are suffering emotional distress and mental health problems. To find out if this service is available in your area phone your local hospital or check the 'Hospital' section in the front of your phone directory for 'Mental Health Services'.
COUNSELLING
Check the 'Counselling Services' section of the Yellow Pages or contact your Citizen Advice Bureau for information. Alternatively, check out the contact numbers which can be found at one of my other pages from this link
FAMILY PLANNING CLINICS
Your local Clinic offers free, special counselling for people with sexual problems stremming from childhood abuse. See under 'Family Planning' in your local directory for telephone numbers and addresses.
PHONE LINES
A 24-hour phone counselling service is operated by the Samaritans. Rape crisis centres offer a phone line to survivors of rape or sexual abuse. The phone numbers for these organisations can be found at one of my other pages at this link
SEXUAL ABUSE
Rape crisis groups have well-trained people who offer support and counsellings to survivors of sexual abuse and rape. Local organisations that specialise in this field may be listed under 'Counselling Services' in your Yellow Pages. VICTIM SUPPORT
They will visit at your request and have a system for supporting people who have to go to court as witnesses. Contact telephone numbers
WOMEN'S AID
A network offering safe, confidential accomodation to women who are leaving an abusive relationship, along with their children. They provide support, information and practical assistance. The contact numbers can be found at one of my other pages at this link
WOMEN'S SUPPORT GROUPS
Some areas have special support groups for women who are living in or recovering from abusive relationships. Check your local CAB to see if there is a women't group near you.
