- The Spirit: Revised Version -
This version... is long and pretty off-the-wall. No real structure to it, I guess. I just wrote whatever came to my mind about the subject. Ah well... I don't consider this version finished either. @_@

We love Gundam Wing, ne? But what exactly attracts us to it? There's gotta be more than a high bishounen and mecha factor keeping us under its gaze, ne? Of course. ^_^
Gundam Wing contains a high amount of philosophical importance and insight as well as several cricial points regarding war. There is a deeper meaning to battle besides blood and death. In truth, it's so much more than that. War is a human nature that cannot be gotten rid of. As Heero points out, we cry and show our sorrow for those who are lost, but we do not stop fighting. War is a big part of our history, our culture, and our heritage. Every single era in human history is marked by some kind of important battle. But why should a place were blood and death is common be revered? The battlefield is where the weak are separated from the strong, the cowards from the fearless, the shamed from the glorious, and so on. War gives people a chance to become stronger and better than they could've been. Gundam Wing points this out both positively and negatively.
Gundam Wing reminds us, of course, about the endless waltz that the world's people dance. War, Peace, and Revolution are yet another part the our human spirit.
Blood, for centuries, has been regarded by numerous cultures as a very powerful and meaningful liquid symbolizing life. When we shed our blood for a purpose we feel strongly about, it shows the strength of the human spirit. Dying for what one believes in is the ultimate testimony to the human soul. It takes a lot of guts to stick to what you believe in right to the very end. How many times did the pilots know they might lose their lives and were okay with it? All the time!
Basically, the series reminds us of what it means to fight for what you believe in... no matter what the cost. You cannot fear death, for death is a gift given to you at birth. It is at your side at all times until one day it decides to take your hand and lead you to your fate. So since we will all eventually die, why not make use of your life and make a difference in the world you leave behind? Surely this is everyone's dream... but it takes a lot of guts to carry out that dream.
Throughout the series, people are constantly remarking on the pilots' ages. Remember that even those who seem too young to do anything can in fact make a BIG difference. The young are especially gifted in that they are not set in their ways. While the young are unstable in what they know for truth, they can still shift views for the better. We can always change to fix our mistakes and we shouldn't ever forget that. Everyone has a purpose and a meaning... and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.
