In August 1984, the BAe146 was chosen as the new aircraft type for the Queen's Flight replacing the aged Andover. The BAe146 CC2 is based on the civilian 100 Series, but has additional fuel capacity and other modifications, including a specially designed Royal Suite.

Accommodation: Crew of six and up to 19 passengers.

Recognition: Underwing mounted engines in four nacelles, slightly swept wings mounted on top of the fuselage, dropping towards the wing tips. Distinctive trailing edge wing fillets. The fuselage is circular in section with bulges on the lower side to accommodate the undercarriage. The rectangular fin and rudder is slightly swept with a T-tailplane mounted on the top of the fin. There are sideways opening airbrakes below the rudder.
