We became a state on December 10, 1817.

Our state flower & tree ~ magnolia.
Our state bird ~ mockingbird.
Our state song ~ "Go Mis-sis-sip-pi" by Houston Davis.

Mississippi Trivia
While hunting in Sharkey County in 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt
refused to shoot a captured bear. This is how he became known as "Teddy" Roosevelt.
It is also where the "teddy bear" originated.
