Purpose:  "The purpose of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest is to promote the art of songwriting by assisting in the discovery of new talent as well as providing more established songwriters with an oportunity to advance thier careers."

Requirements: Each entry must consist of the following:
A)
Complete and signed application
B)
Audio cassette containing one song only, 5 minutes or less in length
C)
Lyric sheet typed or printed legibly (English if at all possible)
D) $30 entry fee

Deadline:
August 28th annualy.  Applications can be found in various music oriented magazines.  Prospective entrants can send for an application or contact via E-mail.

Awards: Entries are accepted in the following 12 categories: ROCK, COUNTRY, JAZZ, POP, WORLD, GOSPEL/INSPIRATIONAL, R&B, HIP-HOP, LATIN, ELECTRONIC, FOLK, AND A SPECIAL CATEGORY OF CHILDRENS MUSIC.

What could you win?  The 2002 prize list consisted of:
A) 12 Grand Prize winners (one in each category) $2,000 cash
B) $5,000 in Yamaha project studio equipment and a $5,000 advance from EMI music publishing
C) One Grand Prize winner recieved won $20,000 for "Song of the Year" courtesy of Maxell
D) Finalists recieved $1,000. 72 additional winners recieved $100 from Guitar Center

Winners are chosen by an executive committee comprised of noted songwriters, producers and recording artists.  Songs will be judged based upon melody, composition and lyrics (when applicable).  The quality of performance and production will not be considered during the adjudication process.

Requirements: Lyrics must be typed and a check for $10 (per entry) must be enclosed.

Deadlines: January 25, March 22, May 17, July 19, september 20, November 15.  Call for required official form or get it from our website. Lyrics only, no cassette.

Awards: A Martin Guitar to each contest winner. Awards airfare to Nashville and a demo session for yearly winner; certificates to all winners and top 5 winning lyrics reprinted in each magazine. Lyrics judged by 6-7 industry people--songwriters, publishers and journalists.

Tips: "You do not have to be a subscriber to enter or win.  Pick your best lyric (limited to three), don't just send them at random."

Purpose: To help songwriters get their songs heard by music industry professionals; to generate eucational and networking opportunities for participating songwriters; to help songwriters open doors in the music buisness.

Awards: Winners recieve a mix of cash awards and prizes.  The focus of the contest is on networking and educational opportunities.  (All participants recieve detailed evaluations of their songs by industry professionals.)  Songs are judged by knowledgeable music-industry professionals including prominent his songwriters, producers and publishers.

Tips: "The quality of the demo recording is not important.  Tocus should be on the song-not on fancy production or complex arrangements.  Judges will be looking for excellent songwriting, not great performances."

Tips: "Judging is based on lyrics, originality, melody and overall composition.  CD quality producion is great but not a consideration in judging."
