I in NO WAY have anything to do with Stargate SG1 or Atlantis. No profit is made from this wacky site. I'm just another obsessed fan with way too much time on my hands! |
"Stargate" started with the movie in 1994 which starred Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O'Neill and James Spader as Dr. Daniel Jackson. Dr. Jackson had a strong belief that the ancient Egyptian Gods were actually aliens. Turns out, he was right. The way these aliens traveled to various worlds throughout the known and unknown universe was through the Stargate. By simply stepping through the wormhole, you were transported to another world or in some cases, a moon! Col. O'Neill signed up for the mission to go through the stargate, assuming it was a suicide mission. Only prior had his son shot him, with the Col.'s own gun. Basically, his reason for living was over. His marriage to Sarah O'Neill was non-existent. As for Dr. Jackson, he was an anxious as ever to go through the gate, and he had a ton of books and medications to help him through. They meet a so-called "God", Ra, and eventually kill him. As it turns out, Daniel meets the love of his life, Sha'ri. He even stayed behind on her world, Abydos, when the rest of the team finally found a way to go back home. |

In 1997, a show based on the original movie premeired on Showtime. Only this time, Richard Dean Anderson was Colonel Jack O'Neill and Michael Shanks was Dr. Daniel Jackson. They also gain two members, Captain Samantha Carter (who would go on to become a Major and eventually a Colonel) played by Amanda Tapping and Teal'c (the Jaffa who defies his false God and joins the SG1) played by Christopher Judge. The show starts when a group of Jaffa, they would be aliens, come through the stargate at the base in Colorado and stir things up. Colonel O'Neill is called back to duty to finish what basically he started by killing Ra. They go back to Abydos, where Daniel is living happy with his wife Sha'ri only to have it all uprooted when the same Jaffa and this time, their "God", Apophis take Sha'ri. We find out more about these so-called "Gods" and that they are actually a race known as the Goa'uld. Basically, they are parasites that attache themselves to a host, in this case, humans. Sha'ri is turned into Amonet, Apophis' wife. For a good portion of the show, SG1, what the team is known as, fight the Goa'uld Apophis and find out there are countless others just waiting to step up and take the place as the baddest of the baddies. Eventually SG1 finds out there are other races of aliens out there, some good and some not so good. They make allies with the Asgard who look an awful lot like the aliens of Roswell! They even discover the ancients. A race of beings who lived long before any other. In fact, their home was Atlantis. And yes, as you may have guessed it, this is where "Stargate Atlantis" picks up. Oh yeah and Colonel O'Neill is now General O'Neill and entriely in charge of Stargate Command! |
Pssst-If any of my facts are wrong or spelled incorrectly I'm sorry. I don't have a perfect memory and it's not always easy for me to get things write, especially with spelling! |

As SG1 discovered an ancient outpost in the Antarctic, they also discovered, or rather Dr. Jackson discovered where Atlantis actually was. It is located in the Pegasus Galaxy which is alot further than anyone in the stargate program has ever traveled. They also discover that some people seem to have a certain gene in their blood that allows them to use the ancient technology. Enter Major John Sheppard, played by Joe Flannigan, and his mutant gene. Turns out, when he simply sits in a funny looking chair, he had t he power to activate and control it. Dr. Elizabeth Weir, played byTori Higginson, who was previously overseeing everything in relation to the stargate after General Hammond got promoted (oh didn't I mention that?) is now overseeing everything in relation to the Atlantis expedition. She recruits Major Sheppard and with some convincing words from General O'Neill, Sheppard flips a coin and signs up! The rest of the team incluces Lt. Aiden Ford, played by Rainbow Sun Francks (isn't that a great name!), Dr. Rodney McKay, played by David Hewlett, think the annoying guy who dared to call Carter and airhead! We also have Dr. Carson Beckett, played by Paul McGillion and the resident alien who becomes part of the team, Teyla, played by Rachel Lutrell. And, if you can imagine, the team manages to find an enemy that is quite possibly ALOT worse than the Goa'uld. They are known as the Wraith and they basically suck the life out of human beings to survive. They were in a deep sleep unti. Major Sheppard and the gang woke their cranky asses up! It's only a matter of time before things go from bad to worse with these guys. |
