Floodplain Protection

• No new development in the floodplain.

• Preservation of streamside trees and vegetation.

• Continuation of existing uses in the floodplain.

Flood Mitigation

•  Assistance to homeowners to relieve flood problems.

•  More storage of flood waters in the northern townships.

•  Flood storage should be outside the floodplain.

   Cooperation of Watershed Agencies

• A Watershed Advisory Council should be formed from watershed residents.

• A uniform standard for flood control systems.

• The Greenway Plan for Hellbranch Run should be adopted by all townships.

 Water Quality is a Central Part of the Greenway Plan

•  Wetlands and ponds should be used as filter strips and with retention ponds.

•  Riparian trees should be preserved and planted along Hellbranch and its tributaries.

•  Stream restoration should be part of stream bank preservation.

•  Golf courses should plant and preserve trees and use new methods to reduce nutrients and chemical pollutants.

• Agricultural land should maintain riparian trees, eliminate channelization and create water 

Open Space and Recreation Opportunities

• Selected sites for regional open space and recreation.

• Separation between agricultural and residential lands with trees along the greenway.

Education of Watershed Residents

• Stream Quality Management Course of school-age children.

• Technical Review meetings for government officials to discuss sediment.

• Technical assistance for landowners to establish trees, filter strips and easements.

• A Stream Stewards Manual and Greenways newsletter for the watershed.
