WHY A PRELUDE?
UPDATED MARCH 3RD
This is a difficult FAQ to answer. Back to the Future is about time travel; yet why write a BTTF story that has absolutely no time travel? Why read a science fiction novel that has almost no science fiction involvement?
While time travel is essential to the trilogy, throughout my prequel, it is not necessary. Instead, I've established the presence of a scientific twist with Doc's work on the machine before his success. In addition, I have tried as best I could to keep the characters true to the movies. That alone was harder than coming up with a scientific twist. Doctor Brown, especially, is a complex character who
(I have seen this stressed at a few good sites) deserves a better explanation.
Marty and the Pinheads: who are those other guys?

From what I have found, many Back to the Future fans on the Internet share the same curiosity about how and why 17-year-old Marty McFly and 60 something Doctor Brown happened to cross paths. There have been several attempts, some of them brief such as the one that
Foxx  has written, or the more descriptive and professional approach that Watson has written. I had only read Watson's tale before I began my own, but since have read many others' and compared them to my own perspective.

Every fan fiction prequel I've read has described Doc and Marty's first acquaintance, but the origin topic is only part of my 'revelation'. There are other questions to answer, some quite obvious, but others which require a lot more thought.
BTTF TRILOGY QUESTIONS LEFT  UNANSWERED
How did Marty and Doc finally meet?
Did Doc ever make a first attempt to travel through time?
How did he come to choose the DeLorean as a time machine?
What was George Mcfly's Job BEFORE time travel took place?

How where the Pinheads established?
The list goes on and on...

· How did Jennifer and Marty meet?
· How did Doc choose a DeLorean? (The real question is when)
· What did George do before time travel?
· How did the Pinheads come to be?

Some of the more complex questions include:
· Who are the Pinheads?
· How did they meet?
· When did they start using Doc's lab for a rehearsal hall?
· When did Marty get his first six string?
· How did the Libyans locate and do business with Doc?

These aren't questions that really seem to have anything to do with the conception of time travel, but in fact, if you think about it, they do. If the gang is jamming in his garage, where is Doc working on the time machine? Can you imagine wrenching on a car in the confined spaces on a van for 5 years, so that your young and curious assistant doesn't open his mouth? That also brings me to the Libyans, the third most important question to answer. How do they come into the picture? Not only is there a scientific twist to the films, but there's also an act of terrorism thrown into the mix, which ultimately leads to Doc's assassination, giving the film a kick in the ass, and the anticipation for a miracle. I have read stories that deal with the basics: how Marty and Doc meet, how Jenny knows Doc, how Strickland knows Doc, but I have never seen how Doc relates to Marty's band, or the why Libyan terrorists would drive a couple dozen bullets into Doc's chest. There are unwritten details to be discussed. I think the biggest question is: Do we want to know?
