January 1999 - October 2000

Synopsis:
The story begins several years before the famous time travel excursion, (4 years, 11 months and 25 days to be exact) in a time where Doctor Brown and Marty McFly know nothing of other. Is it fate that will bring them together or just plain chance?

Marty McFly is a typical California twelve year old, interested in music and skateboarding but hasn't quite outdone himself yet.

Doc is an unsociable inventor with a strange lifestyle and a mystery that no other soul in Hill Valley can figure out. He lives in his garage, alone, with only his dog, working night and day on the ultimate invention that no one has ever seen, nor will see for another five years.
Author's Notes: This story's title was obviously inspired by the prequel rumors lurking on www.bttf.com a few years ago. But while I received my early inspiration from the prequel rumors, I didn't try to rewrite my vision of the rumored script's plot; instead, I came up with my own ORIGINAL plot. I used the same title, and a similar era and theme, however. But nothing else is the same.
When I began writing the project, I never realized how detailed it would become. Back to the Beginning originally began as a side project for me, an alternative to writing original fiction.

But then, I realized there was a whole lot more to Hill Valley's fictional past that meets the eye and soon became drawn into the skeptical history of Hill Valley. For every question from the trilogy that I tried to answer, another unexpected enigma appeared around the corner. The origin of Marty and Doc's first contact was obviously a question I had to make up on my own, as well as how Marty's band is formed, Doc's early development of his time machine, etc. But nonetheless, I did extensive research on the background of BTTF, to keep the other details as accurate as possible and true to the trilogy.

One thing about the story that always made me speculate when writting it, was how to construct a science fiction story based on three movies about time travel, but without allowing any conducted time travel with-in the story. I'm interested in what you think of my interpretation, so please let me know how I did and

About the Editor: Upon doing research for Back to the Beginning on the 'net in fall of 1999, I met Donald Barber III through e-mail. With his assistance and Back to the Future knowledge, (He is the co-creator of the most popular Yahoo Back to the Future Club on the 'net!) I was able to resteer the story in the right direction. And thus, his second opinion on certain issues, proofreading and keeping the facts straight have proved valuable to the project ever since. He's as proud of this story as I am, being that he's seen the evolution on the story from almost the very beginning.  You can e-mail him at: don_barber_iii@yahoo.com.
