Old Dominion 100 Mile
Massanutten Mountains

Well, the Old Dominion 100 mile Cross Country Run was run this past weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Virginia. I was one of the 22 hearty souls to tow the starting line at 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Woodstock County Fairgrounds.

My brother, George (who lives in nearby Manassas) was my all-in-one Crew Chief, trail advisor, short order cook, chaperone, and beer drinking buddy for the weekend. His responsibility was to have me in and out of pre-determined checkpoints faster than a NASCAR pit stop.

Needless to say, he did an excellent job as I didn't spend more then a total of 8 minutes at the 10 checkpoints we met each other.

To make a long 100 miles short, I conquered the 14 climbs, 14,000 feet of climbing, 14,000 feet of desceding, 70 miles of country roads, 30 miles of rocky, muddy trail in a time of 23 hours, 30 minutes, and 50 seconds. Good enough for a 4th place finish.

My feet are a little battered, blistered, and bruised, but I am resting comfortably and will be ready to go by Wed. (I hope!)
