Scary's harpsichord instrumentation is jaunty, catchy, even dancable in a skipping sort of way...yet the words and melody are meloncholy as when telling a sad story from long ago, ie when she sings "and tomorrow passed them by..."

He means tomorrow but says: "in a bit"

Scary was released in Dec.1997 as part of the Bachlorette boxset disc 2. Bachlorette

was the second single off of Bjork's third solo studio album, Homogenic.

Scary is written by Bjork and Guy Sigsworth, harpsichord by Guy Sigsworth, produced by Bjork, mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent.

Homogenic is Bjork's most emotional album, in fact, Bjork herself says its about "hitting rock bottom and earning your way up. So its the darkest album I've done... but its got alot of hope (Raygun, Sept 1997, quoted from unit.bjork.com/specials/albums/homogenic). Some Bjork fans say that she broke up with alot of boyfriends in "those days" and Scary is reflective of that.

Scary is perhaps a closer look at Bjork's personal life in the days of Homogenic... she said during that time she was impatient and wanted action all the time...perhaps she rushed into a few relationships that couldn't bring more fruition...she was in love but they had nothing in common...

Scary is rumored to be about Bjork's relationship with Tricky.

Originally Tricky was a member of a group that eventually morphed into Massive Attack in the early 1990's. In 1993 he released his first solo single aftermath, followed 1995, by his first full album, Maxinquaye. Throughout 1995, Tricky was omnipresent in the UK, collaborating with and remixing for a wide variety of artsists including Bjork, Luscious Jackson and Wale. In February of 1996, Nearly God, an album featuring Tricky's collaborations with artists as diverse as Terry Hall, Bjork, Alison Moyet and Neneh Cherry-- was released. Tricky released more solo work in 1998 and 2001 which also featured a wide variety of collaboration.

Bjork contributed in two songs for Tricky's Nearly God album. Keep Your Mouth Shut features Bjork vocals in the background singing "you've been flirting again." Yoga features Bjork on full vocals.
There's More to Life Than This; Stories Behind Every Song also says that Tricky and Bjork wrote Headphones and To Enjoy together during their 1994 Christmas trip to Iceland.

Scary was not played live until the Greatest Hits 2003 tour where it was played 9 times:
