This family did belong to the untitled nobility of the Russian Empire and were styled Knight, as they would not give up their Muslim believe. Never the less were they regarded in Tartarstan and the surrounding areas that were populated by muslims, as princes by blood. The reason to this is that they did belong to the "Ok-suyak", the so named nobility of the White Bone. These group of nobility under the Muslims found there descendantsy under the Saints of the Islam or the descendants of the Prophet Mohammed. In this group there were different orders of nobility but this family by beeing "Tartar" belonged to the "Tura" group. This group claimed there descandentcy in masculine lineage of a Muslim Saint who's name they did carry as there lastname and in feminine lineage of a descendant "Tengiz Khan". The title this family used during the 19th century is of Arabic origine in what they are styled "Sheikhan". This title is used for high class nobility but without any ruling or leadership attachted to it, namely a "prince". The old Tartar title that correspondent with this title is "Murza" cq "Mirza". The remarkable thing to this "Ok-suyak" nobility is that it did pass on through masculine lineage aswel feminine lineage, never the less did this Nobility marry often into there own class. Next to this they were also mentioned as the "Wolfs" a very old title what in the past was used to mention "Chiefs" or "Leaders". |
