| Ally's House-Kitchen-Ally is underneath the sink fixing the pipes;she notices that water is splashing everywhere;Ally gets up... Ally:(turning the handle) Oh! Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! ( The water stops;there's a knock at the door;Ally grabs a small towel and opens the door;a young girl is standing there) Hello. (pause) Girl: Hi. (pause) Ally: It's a little late. But, I'll take six boxes. Girl: I'm not selling cookies. Ally: Oh. Girl: Are you Alison McBeal? Ally: I am Girl: Do you like surprises? Ally: I hate them. Am I about to get one? Girl: Sort of. Want it straight up or would you like to sit? Ally: Hit me. Girl: I'm your daughter. (pause)Did you hear me? Ally: I'm just waiting for the little fantasy beat to be over. (Pause) You're still standing there. Girl: 'Cause I'm still here. And, I'm still your daughter. Ally: (smiling) Obviously, that's impossible. Girl: Obviously it's not. Look, ten and a half years ago u harvested some eggs and stored them. By mistake of the facility they gave one of your eggs to a man known as Robert Harrington, my father, who passes away 6 months ago. I was placed with a wicked aunt. I escaped this morning. I spent two months tracking u down. (pause) (smiling) Hi, mom. Ally falls backwards on the floor. Heritage Foundation-Ally is sitting at desk in front of a man. Man: Obviuosly we're mortified. Ally:Yes. Just tell me is it true? Is she my genetic daughter? Man: Apparently, she is. We're mortified. This never - Ally: (angry) How can this happen? Man: Well, there is an explanation. I'm not sure it would apease you. Ally: Oh, what am I gonna do? (Puts her head on desk) Man: As you know, you gave your egg anonymously to- Ally: (Lifts her head up) As part of an infertility study. I was informed that I would be notified if it was ever actually used. I was never notified. Man: Which was our mistake. We're mortified. Our records show you were contacted. Ally: I wasn't I wasn't.I'm a mother. There's a 10 year old girl sitting in that waiting room with me eyes. You're mortified? I'm a mother. Man: Sometimes these things can be a blessing. Ally: A blessing? Did u say a blessing? You plomp a 10 year old girl on somebody's lap, and you- Man: Ummmggrrr. (Ally turns around;Maddie is standing there; Ally gets up) Ally: Uh - Hi, Maddie.(pause) How long have u been standing there? (pause) Maddie:(the girl) Long enough. Ally's Office-Ally is standing;Maddie is sitting on a chair Ally: I'm an extremely emotional person. You can't take anything I say personally. Maddie: What do I look like? A dope? You're upset. Fine. Sorry to burden you. Ally: Oh, no, no, no. Don't try to guilt me because I'm - Maddie: I'm not. I'm just trying to say that I understand your feelings. Ally: Maddie, right now, I don't even understand my feelings. ( A woman opens the door; closes door; and comes in) Bonnie (woman) : Mmh. Really nice. (Maddie gets up) Maddie: I left you a note. Bonnie: You run off. You don't tell me where you're going. Really, really nice. (pause) I'm Bonnie Boone - Maddie's aunt. (shakes Ally's hand) I am really about this. This is a cry for attention. Really nice. ( Maddie gets up) Maddie: Don't start psycho-analyzing. Bonnie: I am talking. Maddie: So am I. (pause) Bonnie: I really apologize. She asked me to help track you down because she wanted to see you one day. She never told me she would run off, leaving me to worry sick with grief. Maddie: Could you be any more dramatic? (Pause) Bonnie: We have a one o'clock flight. Maddie: One o'clock? Ally: (yelling) Woh. Woh. Woh. Woh. Woh. Woh. Woh. I'm sorry. A 10 year old genetic daughter doesn't just show up at my door and then catch a one o'clock flight. (pause) Maddie: I'll be gone. Isn't that what you want? (pause) Ally: Maddie, I'm - Uhm - (pause) I'm sure that you're a very nice little girl. But, you chose to insert yourself into my life, so like it or not, in some capacity you are in it. And, so are you. And nobody is gonna be getting on any one o'clock flight. |
