Steve's First Terrarium
I started with a 30 gallon flatback hex tank scavenged from the dumpster at my apartment complex.  Many years ago, I purchased a Water's Edge Viquarium kit.  My first attempts at starting it when I was younger were utter failures, so the viquarium returned to the box, only recently to be excavated from my parent's attic.  I wanted to bring new life back into this kit that I had paid so much for so long ago.

I started my research about terrariums, and before long I had made contact with the Yahoo Group "The Naturalistic Vivarium."  There I got expert tips and advice.  I purchased my terrarium construction materials from Vivarium Concepts.

The first layer of the tank is a false bottom egg crate supported on cheap petrified wood.  Next is a 2-3 inch layer of HYDROTON, followed by my soil substrate.  The substrate is orchid bark, peat moss/milled sphagnum, coco fibers, and charcoal.

The background material is coco fiber panels and cork bark, purchased from Vivarium Concepts.
