Quran
mentions the Prophet Salih's speech to the dead. This speech was made after his
nation had been destroyed.
7:77
Then they ham-strung the she camel, and insolently defied the order of their
Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger
(of Allah)!"
7:78
So the earthquake took them unawares, and they lay prostrate in their homes in
the morning!
7:79
So Salih left them, saying: "O my people! I did indeed convey to you the
message for which I was sent by my Lord: I gave you good counsel, but ye love
not good counsellors!"
7:91
But the earthquake took them unawares, and they lay prostrate in their homes
before the morning!
7:92
The men who reject Shu'aib became as if they had never been in the homes where
they had flourished: the men who rejected Shu'aib - it was they who were
ruined!
7:93
So Shu'aib left them, saying:"O my people! I did indeed convey to you the
messages for which I was sent by my Lord: I gave you good counsel, but how shall
I lament over a people who refuse to believe!"
Rasool
Allah [saww] addressing the Kuffar who were killed
Narrated
Ibn 'Umar: "The Messenger of Allah spoke to the People (buried) in the
Well saying: "Have you found out that what your Lord had promised you is
true?" then someone exclaimed: "Are you calling out to the
dead!" The Prophet replied: "You do not hear better than
they
do, except they do not respond."
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 452 Narrated Abu Talha: "On the day of
Badr, the Prophet ordered that the corpses of twenty four leaders of Quraish
should be thrown into one of the dirty dry wells of Badr. …… When he halted at
the edge of the well, he addressed the corpses of the Quraish infidels by their
names and their fathers' names, "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so and O
so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it have pleased you if you had obeyed Allah
and His Apostle? We have found true what our Lord promised us. Have you too
found true what your Lord promised you? "'Umar said, "O Allah's
Apostle! You are speaking to bodies that have no souls!" Allah's Apostle
said, "By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, you do not hear, what I
say better than they do." (Qatada said, "Allah brought them to life
(again) to let them hear him, to reprimand them and slight them and take
revenge over them and caused them to feel remorseful and regretful.")
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 314 And Anas b. Malik reported that: Allah's
Messenger (may peace be upon him) let the dead bodies of the unbelievers who
fought in Badr (lie unburied) for three days. He then came to them and sat by
their side and called them and said: O Abu Jahl b. Hisham, O Umayya b. Khalaf,
O Utba b. Rab'ila, O Shaiba b. Rabi'a, have you not found what your Lord had
promised with you to be correct? As for me, I have found the promises of my
Lord to be (perfectly) correct. Umar listened to the words of Allah's Apostle
(may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, how do they listen and
respond to you? They are dead and their bodies have decayed. Thereupon he (the
Holy Prophet) said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, what I am saying to them,
even you cannot hear more distinctly than they, but they lack the power to
reply. Then'he commanded that they should be buried in the well of Badr.
Sahih
Muslim, Book 040, Number 6869 Narrated Ibn Shihab: These were the battles of
Allah's Apostle (which he fought), and while mentioning
(the
Badr battle) he said, "While the corpses of the pagans were being thrown
into the well, Allah's Apostle said (to them), 'Have you found what your Lord
promised true?" 'Abdullah said, "Some of the Prophet's companions
said, "O Allah's Apostle! You are addressing dead people.' Allah's Apostle
replied, 'You do not hear what I am saying, better than they.' ……"
Sahih
Muslim, Book 040, Number 6869
Abu
Talha reported that Rasool Allah [saww] called to them: "O Abu Jahl Ibn
Hisham! O Umayya Ibn Khalaf! O`Utba ibn Rabi`a! Have you not
found
out that what your Lord promised you is true? for I have found that what he has
promised me is true." `Umar said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, how
do you address bodies devoid of spirit?" The Prophet replied: "By Him
Who holds my life in His Hands! You do not hear what I am saying to them better
than they do.
...(
A'isha said ) The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) stood by the well
in which were lying the dead bodies of those polytheists who had been killed on
the Day of Badr, and he said to them what he had to say, i.e.: They hear what I
say. But he (Ibn 'Umar) misunderstood. The Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him)
had only said: They understand that what I used to say to them was truth . She
then recited:"Certainly, thou canst not make the dead hear the
call...." Sahih Muslim Book 004, Number 2027,
Sahih
Bukhari Volume 5 Book 59, Number 317:narrated Ibn Umar:
The
Prophet stood at the well of Badr (which contained the corpses of the pagans)
and said, "Have you found true what your lord promised you?" Then he
further said, "They now hear what I say." This was mentioned before
'Aisha and she said, "But the Prophet said, 'Now they know very well that
what I used to tell them was the truth.' Then she recited (the Holy Verse):--
"You cannot make the dead hear... ..."

opinion contradicts the verse and many hadith, and is not held by majority
of scholars as appropriate.
The Book
Pertaining to Paradise, Its Description, Its Bounties and Its Intimates (Kitab
Al-Jannat wa Sifat Na'imiha wa Ahliha)
Muslim
:: Book 40 : Hadith 6862 Anas b. Malik reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be
upon him) having said: When the servant is placed in his grave and his
companions retrace their steps arid he hears the noise of the footsteps,
then two angels come to him and make him sit and say to him: What you have to
say about this person (the Holy Prophet)? If he is d believer, lie would say: I
bear testimony to the fact that he is a servant of Allali and His Messenger.
Then it would be said to him: Look to your seat in the Hell- Fire, for Allah
has substituted (the seat of yours) with a seat in Paradise. Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) said: He would be shown both the seats. Qatada said: It
was mentioned to us that his grave (the grave of a believer) expands to seventy
cubits and is full with verdure until the Day when they would be resurrected.
Abu Huraira
reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came to the graveyard
and said: "Peace be upon you! (O) the abode of the believing people and
we, if God so wills, are about to join you. I love to see my brothers. They
(the hearers) said: Aren't we your brothers-Messenger of Allah? He said: You
are my companions, and our brothers are those who have, so far, not come into
the world."
Sahih
Muslim, Book 002, Number 0482 Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may
peace The upon him) went out to the graveyard and said: "Peace be upon
you, the abode of the believing people. and If Allah so wills we shall join
you.... (and so on and so forth) like the hadith narrated by Isma'il b. Ja'far
except the words of Malik: Then some persons would be driven away from my
Cistern."
Sahih
Muslim, Book 002, Number 0483
Sulaiman
b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah
(may peace be upon him) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard.
One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the
authority of Abu Bakr:
"Peace be upon the inhabitants of the
city (i. e. graveyard)." In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words
are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the
believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace
for us and for you."
Sahih
Muslim, Book 004, Number 2128
'A'isha
reported (that whenever it was her turn for Allah's Messenger [may peace be
upon him] to spend the night with her) he would go out towards the end of the
night to al-Baqi' and say: "Peace be upon you, abode of a people who are
believers. What you were promised would come to you tomorrow, you receiving it
after some delay; and God willing we shall join you. O Allah, grant forgiveness
to the inhabitants of Baqi' al-Gharqad. Qutaiba did not mention his
words:" would come to you".
Sahih
Muslim, Book 004, Number 2126
Aisha
said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray for them? He said: "Say, Peace
be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the
Believers
and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us,
and those who come later on, and we shall, Go willing, join you."

Rasoolullah said: "when ever some on send salam to saahib-e-Qabr then he
replies, and if he know him in his life then he do know him after death"
(Baheeqi Fee Su'Bil Iman, Ibn-e-Abi Dunya)
Book
004, Number 2127:(Sahih Muslim)Muhammad b. Qais said (to the people): Should I not
narrate to you (a hadith of the Holy Prophet) on my authority and on the
authority of my mother? We thought that he meant the mother who had given him
birth. He (Muhammad b. Qais) then reported that it was 'A'isha who had narrated
this: Should I not narrate to you about myself and about the Messenger of Allah
(may peace be upon him)? We said: Yes. She said: When it was my turn for
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to spend the night with me, he turned
his side, put on his mantle and took off his shoes and placed them near his
feet, and spread the corner of his shawl on his bed and then lay down till he
thought that I had gone to sleep. He took hold of his mantle slowly and put on
the shoes slowly, and opened the door and went out and then closed it lightly.
I covered my head, put on my veil and tightened my waist wrapper, and then went
out following his steps till he reached Baqi'. He stood there and he stood for
a long time. He then lifted his hands three times, and then returned and I also
returned. He hastened his steps and I also hastened my steps. He ran and I too
ran. He came (to the house) and I also came (to the house). I, however,
preceded him and I entered (the house), and as I lay down in the bed, he (the
Holy Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are
out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the
Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be
ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the
darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me
on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and
His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?
She said: Whatsoever the people conceal, Allah will know it. He said:
Gabriel came to me when you saw me. He called me and he concealed it from you.
I responded to his call, but I too concealed it from you (for he did not come
to you), as you were not fully dressed. I thought that you had gone to sleep,
and I did not like to awaken you, fearing that you may be frightened. He
(Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi'
(to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of
Allah, how should I pray for them (How should I beg forgiveness for them)? He
said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among
the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone
ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 462: Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri : Allah's
Apostle said, "When the funeral is ready (for its burial) and the people
lift it on their shoulders, then if deceased is a righteous person he says,
'Take me ahead,' and if he is not a righteous one then he says, 'Woe to it
(me)! Where are you taking it (me)?' And his voice is audible to everything
except human beings; and if they
heard
it they would fall down unconscious."
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 462:Narrated Amr ibn al-'As:
Ibn
Shamasah said: We went to Amr ibn al-'As and he was about to die. He wept for a
long time and turned his face towards the wall. His son said: Did the Messenger
of Allah (peace be upon him) not give you tidings of this? Did the Messenger of
Allah (peace be upon him) not give you tidings of this? He (the narrator) said:
He turned his face (towards the audience) and said: The best thing which we can
count upon is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is
the Apostle of Allah. Verily I have passed through three phases.
Sahih
Muslim #220 Amr bin Aas (r.a) said. When you bury me, fill my grave well with
earth, then stand around it for the time within which a camel is slaughtered
and its meat is distributed so that I may enjoy your intimacy and (in your
company) ascertain what answer I can give to the messengers (angels) of Allah.
Bukhari
Volume 5, Book 57, Number 19
Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet)
Allah's Apostle died while Abu Bakr was at a place called As-Sunah (Al-'Aliya)
'Umar stood up and said, "By Allah! Allah's Apostle is not dead!"
'Umar (later on) said, "By Allah! Nothing occurred to my mind except
that." He said, "Verily! Allah will resurrect him and he will cut the
hands and legs of some men." Then Abu Bakr came and uncovered the face of
Allah's Apostle, kissed him and said, "Let my mother and father be
sacrificed for you, (O Allah's Apostle), you are good in life and in death. By
Allah in Whose Hands my life is, Allah will never make you taste
death
twice." Then he went out and said, "O oath-taker! Don't be
hasty." When Abu Bakr spoke, 'Umar sat down. Abu Bakr praised and
glorified Allah and said, No doubt! Whoever worshipped Muhammad, then Muhammad
is dead, but whoever worshipped Allah, then Allah is Alive and shall never
die." Then he recited Allah's Statement.:-- "(O Muhammad) Verily you
will die, and they also will die." (39.30) He also recited:--
Rasool
Allah (saw) said: Allah has declared it forbidden for the earth to eat the bodies
of the prophets. So the prophets are living and they regularly receive their
sustenance Ibn Majah narrated this sahih (sound) hadith in his Sunan, b of
jana'iz (funerals) ch.65 (1:524#1636-7), b of iqamat-us-salat was-sunnah fiha
(establishing prayer and its sunnahs) ch.79 (1:345#1085); Abu Dawud, Sunan, b.

Tabarani, al-Mu'jam-ul-kabir (1:217#589); and Bayhaqi in as-Sunanul-kubra
(3:249).
Ibn
Hajr al Asqlani explaining the same hadith said: Death will never come to the
Blessed Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him &give him peace) in his grave,
but he will remain alive, due to the fact that the Prophets remain alive in
their graves" (Fath al-Bari, 17/22).
Imam
al-Subki explains: "It is from our beliefs that the Prophets are alive in
their graves". (Tabqat al-Shafi'iyya al-Kubra, 6/266).
The
great Hanafi jurist, Ibn Abidin says: "The Prophets are alive in their
graves, as proven from the Hadith" (Rasa'il of Ibn Abidin, 2/203)
Narrated
AbudDarda Al Tirmdhi 1366
Allah's
Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Invoke many blessings on me on Friday
for it is witnessed. The angels are present on it, and no one will invoke a
blessing on me without his blessing being submitted to me till he stops."
I asked whether that applied also after his death, and he replied, "Allah
has prohibited the Earth from consuming the bodies of the prophets; so Allah's
prophet is alive and given provision."
60:13
O you who believe! do not make friends with a people with whom Allah is wroth;
indeed they despair of the hereafter as the unbelievers despair of those in
tombs.
*Note:The
disbelievers of Mecca (despair of those who are in the graves) i.e. of the
return of the people of the graves; and it is also said that this means: of the
questioning of Munkar and Nakir; and it is also said this means: do not be
friendly with a folk with whom Allah is wroth, but rather be of those who
glorify Allah and pray to Him'.
Tafsir
Ibn ‘Abbas
[Yusufali
35:22] Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead. (Only)Allah
can make any that He wills to hear (i.e. guide to his message); but thou canst
not make those to hear (i.e. guide to his message) who are (buried) in graves.
The word "Hear" in the above verse is figurative (Majaaz) and has
been used by Allah in sense of making people to Accept the message of Allah/
making people Hear the message of Allah/
*Note:They cannot listen to Guidance (Ma'naha Sama' Huda) i.e. they are dead and cannot be guided anymore."
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 453
Narrated
'Aisha: The Prophet said, "They now realize that what I used to tell them
was the truth. "And Allah said, 'Verily! You cannot make the dead to hear
(27.80)
*Note:They cannot
listen to Guidance (Ma'naha Sama' Huda) i.e. they are dead and cannot be guided
anymore."
Yusufali 27:80 Truly thou canst not cause the
dead to listen, nor canst thou cause the deaf to hear the call...
[Yusufali 27:81] Nor canst thou be a guide to
the blind ( i.e. Kuffar), from straying: only those wilt thou get to listen who
believe in Our Signs, and they will bow in Islam.
*Note:They cannot listen to
Guidance (Ma'naha Sama' Huda) i.e. they are dead and cannot be guided
anymore."
"My entire Ummah was presented before me
with each individual's scroll of deeds, good as well as bad." (Muslim
Shareef, vol. 1, p. 207; Musnad-i-Ahmad; Ibn-e-Maja)
*Note:Prophet
Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam
saw individual scrolls good and bad to an extent and informed the companions
that.
Sayyidina
Umar(RA), states "In one Friday sermon, the Holy Prophet(Sallal Laahu
Alaihi Wasallam) informed us about everything which has happened or will
happen from the very beginning of time until the Hereafter when some will
inhabit Paradise while the others Hell." (Bukhari Sharif)
Excerpts
from biography of Ali r.a
……….when
he saw Talhah and Zubayr, two close companions of the Prophet, in the midst of
the army, he shouted to them to come out to him. They did and Ali said to
Talhah:
"O
Talhah, have you come with the wife of the Messenger of Allah to fight along
with her...?" And to Zubayr he said:
"O
Zubayr, I implore you, by God, do you remember the day when the Prophet. peace
be on him, passed by you and we were in such and such a place and he asked you:
'Do you love Ali?' and you said: 'Why shouldn't I love my cousin and one who
follows my religion...?'"
Thereupon
the Prophet of Allah fortold that one day you would fight me for nothing."
"Certainly!" replied Zubair, "I now recall the words of the
Prophet of Allah."
*Note:
So Ali r.a and Zubayr r.a were fortold about fight but not the fight in detail.
"Your
deeds are presented to me. If they are good, I express my gratitude to Allah,
and if the deeds are not good, then I pray to Allah for your forgiveness".
Haythami
transmitted it in Majma'-uz-zawa'id (9:24) and said that that tradition had
been
reported
by Bazzar (in his Musnad) and its sub-narrators are all of sahih (sound)
hadith. 'Iraqihas confirmed the soundness of its chain of transmission in his
book Tarh-ut-athrib fi sharh-it-taqrib (3:297). Ibn Sa'd has recorded it in
at-Tabaqat-ul-kubra (2:194). Qadi 'Iyad has inscribed this tradiion in ashShifa
(1:19); and Suyuti, recording it in al-Khasa'is-ul-kubra (2:281) and
Manahil-us-sifa fi takhrij ahadith ash-Shifa (p.3) has commented that Ibn Abi
Usamah in his
Musnad
has reproduced it through Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani and Bazzar in his Musnad
who have relied on its narration by 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud with a sound chain of
transmission. It has been endorsed by Khafaji and Mulla 'Ali Qari in their
commentaries on ash-Shifa, i.e. Nasimur-riyad (1:102) and Sharh ash-Shifa
(1:36) respectively. Hadith-scholar Ibn-ul-Jawzi has reproduced it in al-Wafa
bi-ahwal-il-mustafa (2:809-10) from Bakr bin 'Abdullah and Anas bin
Malik.
Subki has copied this tradition in Shifa'-us-siqam fi ziyarat khayr-il-anam
(p.34) from Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani and Ibn 'Abd-ul-Hadi in
as-Sarim-ul-munki (p.266-7) has authenticated its veracity. Bazzar's tradition
has also been recorded by Ibn Kathir in al-Bidayah wan-nihayah
(4:257).
'Asqalani narrated it through Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani in
al-Matalib-ul-'aliyah (4:223#3853). 'Ali al-Hindi copied Ibn Sa'd's tradition
in Kanz-ul-'ummal (11:407#31903) and from Harith (#31904). Nabhani related it
in Hujjatullah 'alal'alamin fi mu'jazat sayyid-il-mursalin (p.713).
*Note:
Deeds are presented
to Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam Is itself a proof that he is
not omnipresent, nor is he seeing all the deeds from his grave, He is Informed
about collective action of Ummah.For-ex Ummah had abandoned Jihad or amongst
good deeds , Ummah is following Shariah laws properly etc.He does not know
individual deeds.
He Does Not Know Individual
Deeds.
Prophetic
Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh)) Bukhari :: Book 6 :: Volume 60 :: Hadith 264
Narrated
Ibn Abbas: The Prophet delivered a sermon and said, "You (people) will be
gathered before Allah (on the Day of Resurrection) bare-footed, naked and
uncircumcised." (The Prophet then recited):-- 'As We began the first
creation We shall repeat it. (It is) a promise We have undertaken and truly We
shall do it.' and added, "The first man who will be dressed on the Day of
Resurrection, will be Abraham. Lo! Some men from my followers will be brought
and taken towards the left side, whereupon I will say, 'O Lord, (these are) my
companions!' It will be said, 'You do not know what new things they
introduced (into the religion) after you.' I will then say as the righteous
pious slave, Jesus, said, 'I was a witness over them while I dwelt among
them...(to His Statement)..and You are the Witness to all things.' (5.117) Then
it will be said, '(O Muhammad) These people never stopped to apostate since you
left them."
5:117.
"Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allâh) did command me to
say: 'Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them
while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over
them, and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and
warning to the Christians of the whole world).
Imām
Mālik
Imām
Mālik’s prominence as one of the four jurists of Islam is
well-established. Once Caliph Abū Ja‘far Mansūr visited Medina and he
asked Imām Mālik: ‘while supplicating, should I turn my face to the
prayer niche [and turn my back to the Holy Prophet (صلى الله
عليه وآله وسلم)]
or should I turn my face to the Holy Prophet [(صلى الله
عليه وآله وسلم)
and turn my back to the prayer niche]?’ On this interrogation, Imām
Mālik replied: ‘(O caliph!) Why do you turn your face from the Holy
Prophet (صلى الله عليه
وآله وسلم), as he is the means
for you and for your ancestor Adam (عليه السلام)
on the Day of Judgement? Rather you should (pray and supplicate by) turning
towards the Prophet (صلى الله عليه
وآله وسلم) and seek his
intercession so that he intercedes for you before Allāh on the Day of
Judgement. Allāh has declared:
(O
beloved!) And if they had come to you, when they had wronged their souls, and
asked forgiveness of Allāh, and the Messenger also had asked forgiveness
for them, they (on the basis of this means and intercession) would have surely
found Allāh the Granter of repentance, extremely Merciful.
This
incident has been narrated by Qādī ‘Iyād in his ash-Shifā
(2:596) with a sound chain of transmission. Besides, it has been related by a
number of other traditionists of impeccable credibility. Subkī in
Shifā’-us-siqām fī ziyārat khayr-il-anām,
Samhūdī in Khulāsat-ul-wafā, Qastallānī in
al-Mawāhib-ul-laduniyyah, Ibn Jamā‘ah in Hidāyat-us-sālik
and Ibn Hajar Haythamī in al-Jawhar-ul-munazzam.
*Note:To seek intercession on
judgement day.
There
is a verse of Quran, in which Allah (swt) says: 4:64...... If they had only,
when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's
forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have
found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful.
Abū
Mansūr as-Sabbāgh who writes the famous narration in his book that,
according to ‘Utbī,
once
he was sitting beside the Prophet’s grave when a bedouin came and he said:
‘Peace be on you, O Allāh’s Messenger! I have heard that Allāh says,
“(O beloved!) And if they had come to you, when they had wronged their souls,
and asked forgiveness of Allāh, and the Messenger also had asked
forgiveness for them, they (on the basis of this means and intercession) would
have surely found Allāh the Granter of repentance, extremely Merciful. ”
I have come to you, asking forgiveness for my sins and I make you as intercessor
before my Lord and I have come to you for this purpose. ’ Then he recited
these verses: ‘O, the most exalted among the buried people who improved the
worth of the plains and the hillocks! May I sacrifice my life for this grave
which is made radiant by you, (the Prophet,) the one who is (an embodiment of)
mercy and forgiveness.’ Then the bedouin went away and I fell asleep. In my
dream I saw the Holy Prophet (صلى الله
عليه وآله وسلم).
He said to me: ‘O ‘Utbī, the bedouin is right, go and give him the good
news that Allāh has forgiven his sins.
Ibn
Kathīr, Tafsīr-ul-Qur’ān al-‘azīm (1:519-20).
*Note:Intercession/Waseela
of the rank, postion, status of Prophet salla lahu alaihi wa sallam before
Allah. It means for the sake of Rasool Allah, accept forgiveness o Allah!
The Book of Prayers (Kitab
Al-Salat) Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith
2128
Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated
on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon
him) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the
narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu
Bakr:" Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)."
In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you,
the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing
we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you."
*Note:After
praying for grave occupants Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam also
prayed for himself.
Imam
Shaa'faiee states:
"I
gain the blessings from the grave Imam Abu Hanifa and whenever I get into
trouble, then I offer two rakats and then I visit his grave, and pray their for
the solution, and ALHAMDO LILLAH my needs are always fulfilled."
(Al-Khairatul Hassan Vol 1 Page 38, Tareekh Khateeb-e-Baghdadi Vol 1 Page 123,
Raddul Mukhrat Vol 1 Page 38)
*Note:After
parying for the deceased Muslims can pray for their need directly to Allah
subhanawatala.
Imam
Ahmed Bin Hunble states:
"When
ever someone(i.e.muslim) died in Ansaar-e-Madina then they use to visit their
graves and recite Quran Kareem on their graves". (Mirqaat Sharha Mishkaat,
Vol 4, Page 81)
Hāfiz
‘Asqalānī
He
has in his books al-Isābah fī tamyīz-is-sahābah (3:484) and
Fath-ul-bārī (2:495-6) narrated the incident of the man who visited
the Prophet’s grave for rain through his means and called him for help.
*Note: This is not the complete
incident, after callin for help directly ,he had a dream in which Prophet
Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam told him to go to Umar r.a and ask him to
act clever, then Umar r.a took waseela/intercession of Abbas r.a as follows
Sahabi Bilal ibn al-Harith as
narrated in two versions:(a) Version 1 From the Sahabi Malik al-Dar:
The people
suffered a drought in `Umar's khilafa, whereupon a man came to the grave of the
Prophet sallAllahu `alayhi wa-Alihi wa-Sallam and said: "Messenger of
Allah! Ask for rain for your Community, for verily they have but
perished." After this the Prophet appeared to him in a dream and told him:
"Go to `Umar and give him my greeting, then tell him that they will be
watered. Tell him: Be clever!" The man went and told `Umar. The latter
wept and said: "My Lord! I spare no effort except in what escapes my
power."
*Note:It was sheer desperation
of man and he asked directly to prophet Muhammad peace be upon him,it was an
incorrect way hence he was guided the right way in dream and Umar r.a was aksed
to be clever.Had directly asking method been true,Umar r.a would have already
don’t it,but he did not do it.
,Umar r.a would have already
went to his grave and asked for rain. But such is not the case.It was just the
desperation of a man.And Prophe salla lahu alihi wa sallamt did came into dream
of that man to inform Umar[r.a] to be clever. It itself proves that asking from
graves is not a clever act.
Its
Permitted To Go Close To The Grave.
It
is attributed to Dāwūd bin Abī Sālih. He says: ‘one day
Marwān came and he saw that a man was lying down with his mouth turned
close to the Prophet’s grave. Then he (Marwān) said to him, “Do you know
what are you doing?” When he moved towards him, he saw that it was Abū
Ayyūb al-Ansārī. (In reply) he said, “Yes, (I know) I have come
to the Messenger of Allāh(صلى الله
عليه وآله وسلم)
and not to a stone . I have heard it from the Messenger of God (صلى
الله عليه وآله
وسلم) not to cry over religion when its guardian is competent.
Yes, shed tears over religion when its guardian is incompetent
Imam
abu Hanifa (RA)
al-Imam
Abu Hanifah reported in his Musnad, Kitab al-Haj, from Nafi' from 'Umar (ra)
that of the supererogatory practices is that you approach the grave of the
Prophet (saws) from the direction of the qiblah, turn your back to the qiblah,
face the grave with your face and then say: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet,
and the Mercy and Blessings of Allah."
Abu
Haneefah said:
((It
is detested for the supplicator to say: "I ask You by the right of so and
so", or, "By the right of Your Prophets and Messengers, and by the
right of the Sacred House and the Sacred Sanctuary")),
[Sharhul-'Aqeedatut-Tahaawiyyah (p. 234) and Ithaafus-Saadaatul-Mustaqeem (2/285)
and Sharhul-Fiqhil-Akbar (p. 198) of al-Qaaree]
And
Abu Haneefah said:
((It
is not befitting for anyone to call upon Allaah, except by Him, and it is even
more detestable for him to say: "By the junctures of Honour from your
Throne", or "By the Right of Your Creation")), [al-Fiqhul-Absat
(p. 56)]
There
Are Virtues And Merits For Visting Prophet’s Grave
Qādī
‘Iyād He has, in his book, ash-Shifā (2:596) narrated Imām
Mālik’s statement to the Caliph Abū Ja‘far Mansūr, which we have
mentioned before. He also narrated Adam’s intermediation through the Holy
Prophet (صلى الله عليه
وآله وسلم) with the help of
sound and famous traditions in ash-Shifā (1:227-8). In addition, in the
chapters on “visiting the Prophet’s grave,” “virtues and merits of the Prophet
(صلى الله عليه
وآله وسلم)” and in many other
chapters in his book he has referred to the qualities and attributes of the
Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه
وآله وسلم).
It is
revealed that the Prophet (s) knows his lovers and listens to them. Once he
said to his companions about Hadrat Isa (s) that he will return to this world.
Then Hadrat Eisa (s) will visit Madinah and the Prophet (s) said: And when he
(Isa) will stand beside my grave calling: "O Muhammad!" I will
respond to him. Ibn Hajar 'Asqalani, al-Matalib-ul-'aliyah, (4: 23 # 3853)
*Note:This
will happen when promise of Allah will happen,Isa aali salaam decending from
heaven, during his return miraculous things will happen as his decend
itself would be a unique event .Rasool
Allah salla lahu alaihi wa sallam will respond.
Allah
knows best
