Helga's Parrot | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Big Bob's parrot overhears Helga's love poem to Arnold and flies away - straight to Arnold's room, where Helga has to find a way to silence the bird before it says too much Written by Antionette Stella Story by Michelle Lamoreaux and Joseph Purdy Storyboard Direction by Kurt Dumas Animation Direction by Frank Weiss Storyboard Artist: Cesar Martinez Cast: Arnold - Spencer Klein Helga - Francesca Smith Phoebe, pet shop clerk - Anndi McAfee Lila - Ashley Buccille Grandpa - Dan Castellaneta Big Bob Pataki - Maurice LaMarche Miriam Pataki - Kath E. Soucie Mr. Simmons - Dan Butler Parrot - Candi Milo * Any parrot who can memorize an entire poem after hearing it once and then recite it without making mistakes is probably worth its weight in platinum on the talk show circuit * When Grandpa was telling Arnold what to do if someone comes to the door looking for a parrot, it's a good thing Grandpa wasn't talking to Harold during "Harold's Kitty" * There's another appearance of Arnold's shirt * Helga was stuck behind Arnold's couch, then is seen breaking through the ceiling above the kitchen - but the two aren't connected; she would have broken into either the second floor hallway or someone's room * Right after Lila asks the parrot to recite the poem, look behind the parrot to the right; there's a picture of Ruth on the wall of Arnold's room * For a network that pretty much goes out of its way to keep its shows from using the word "dead", Nickelodeon certainly surprised me by showing a parrot being eaten by a monitor lizard! * How do you describe a dead parrot without using the word "dead"? Well, they can borrow a line from episode 8 of Monty Python's Flying Circus (first shown in 1969): Helga's parrot "is passed on. This parrot is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late parrot. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace...It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir-invisible. This is an ex-parrot!" (If you go by a video store, look for Monty Python's Flying Circus DVD #3 (in the purple box) or, if you find a set of the old Paramount tapes (not the A&E ones), tape 15...and yes, that's John Cleese (...and Michael Palin...and Eric Idle...and if you think you see someone who looks like director Terry Gilliam, that's him) back in 1969.) |
