| New Bully on the Block | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Arnold and the other fourth graders have things twice as tough as they used to when Ludwig, a fifth-grader who doesn't like them or Wolfgang, shows up to reclaim the vacant lot Written by Craig Bartlett Storyboard Direction by Carson Kugler Animation Direction by Frank Weiss Storyboard Artist: Caesar Martinez Cast: Arnold - Spencer Klein Gerald - Jamil Smith Helga - Francesca Smith Harold - Justin Shenkarow Sid - Sam Gifaldi Stinky - Christopher Walberg Curly - Adam Wylie Brainy - Craig Bartlett Wolfgang - Toran Caudell Ludwig - Phillip G. VanDyke * You've heard of the Three Tenors and the Three Caballeros; now we have the Three Arnolds - Toran Caudell (the first Arnold, if you don't count the pilot) as Wolfgang, Phillip Van Dyke (the second Arnold) as Ludwig, and Spencer Klein as Arnold * Note that Phillip Van Dyke is now credited as Phillip G. VanDyke * Although Wolfgang does sound a little like "an older Arnold", it's hard to believe that the voice of Ludwig was also once the voice of Arnold * Wolfgang and Ludwig are also the first names of famous classical music composers Mozart and Beethoven (if you're wondering why Beethoven wasn't part of "What's Opera, Arnold?", it's probably because he wrote just one opera - Fidelio - which doesn't really have any "memorable" music the way Carmen does) * The original teams are Arnold, Helga, Gerald, Phoebe, Curly, Sheena, Sid, and Brainy against Harold, Stinky, Eugene, Rhonda, Nadine, Sheena, Park, and Joey; in the Wolfgang vs. Ludwig game, Iggy and Park switch with Curly and Sheena * Wolfgang interrupts a fourth-grade football game by intercepting a pass - that's how "Mudbowl" started * Ludwig calls Arnold "football face" * The lot didn't look big enough in the past to hold a football field; also, the dirt for the baseball infield is gone * The car that the baseball hits has license plates "KIDH8R" (kid hater) * Arnold's baseball glove starts out as a mitt (no "fingers") but then becomes a glove * Speaking of which, Arnold wears his glove on his right hand (so he throws with his left hand), while Gerald's is on his left hand (so he's a "righty") * Unlike in past episodes, where just about everybody bats left-handed (so you can see them swing as the ball is pitched from left to right), Stinky is batting right-handed * I've never heard of a "buttonhole" pass play; they might have meant "buttonhook", which, if I remember correctly, is straight down field and then a quick turnaround; the pattern looks like a buttonhook * Helga's black eye is her right eye; Arnold's first one is his left * For someone who knows karate, Arnold certainly lets himself get beat up a lot in this episode * Arnold's not perfect after all; he ends up the "loser" in this episode * SPECIAL THANKS: J.D., Toran, Phillip, and Spencer - actually, there have been four Arnolds; J.D. Daniels was Arnold in the pilot (the version of "24 Hours to Live" shown with the movie Harriet the Spy - don't go looking for this on the movie's video, as they replaced it with Rugrats) |

| Phoebe Breaks A Leg | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Phoebe breaks her leg in an automobile accident while doing one too many favors for Helga, so Helga tries to make it up to her, but when Phoebe's leg is healed, she feels she deserves more of "the good life"
Written by Mickelle Lamoreaux Storyboard Direction by Chris Robertson Animation Direction by Frank Weiss Storyboard Artist: Aldin Baroza Cast: Arnold - Spencer Klein Phoebe - Anndi McAfee (credited as "Andi") Gerald - Jamil Smith Helga - Francesca Smith Stinky - Christopher Walberg Brainy, Doctor - Craig Bartlett Uncredited: Patient * The "N" in Helga's "BANG" comic book is initially backwards, but then it is correct * You can see the whites of Phoebe's eyes - even in one scene when she's wearing her glasses (the scene where she's putting the hinges on her cast) * Phoebe goes to the Dryman Medical Clinic (which is where Gerald had his tonsils removed in "Gerald's Tonsils"); Derek Drymon is one of the show's regular directors/artists (at least he was; he's not listed in any credits after the second season) * The donut shop must have been out of the donuts Helga asked for, as she asked Phoebe to get chocolate donuts with pink frosting, but they were plain cake donuts with what looked like maple frosting * Phoebe's glasses were left broken at the scene of the accident; where did she get the second pair? (Presumably a bit of time passed by between the accident and when Helga met Phoebe, as they had time to set Phoebe's cast, so Phoebe's parents would have shown up with another pair) * Helga calls her right fist "Old Betsy" - but that's her left fist; her right fist is "The Five Avengers" * When Helga reorganized Phoebe's locker, she managed to leave space so Phoebe can see her picture of Gerald * Arnold said he saw Phoebe take her cast off and put it back on, but it's still off when he says it * One of the bottles of shampoo Helga has is "It Girl" * Again with the spelling: Anndi McAfee's name was misspelled |
