| ...is stolen after he wins an award for it at a car show; can Grandma Spade and Armold Marlowe find the thief? Written by Craig Bartlett, Joseph Purdy Storyboard Direction by Carson Kugler Animation Direction by Frank Weiss Storyboard Artists: Caesar Martinez, Diane Kredensor, Kelly James Assistant Storyboard Artists: Louis C. Gallegos, Elyse Whittaker-Paek, Jason Sellin Cast: Arnold - Spencer Klein Grandpa, Jolly Olly Ice Cream man, Ivana, Marv - Dan Castellaneta Grandma, car show announcer - Tress MacNeille Ned (radio DJ), policeman - Craig Bartlett Vic, Morrie - John Mariano Leichliter - Tim Curry Rex Smythe-Higgins - Tony Jay * If the name Ivana Divanacevic sounds familiar: Danica Ivancevic is a writer (and occasional voice) on the show. * Even at the car show, Grandpa is called "Steely Phil". * Leichliter is right; the entire "Ring of the Nieblung" series (four operas) lasts about 17 hours! (Actually, these are some of the longest operas regularly performed; most last less than three hours.) * There were a number of references to detective stories: o Grandma was "Spade" - Sam Spade was a private detective, best known for The Maltese Falcon. o Arnold was "Marlowe" - Philip Marlowe was another private detetive, probably best known for The Big Sleep. o Grandma carried around a lollipop, a reference to the TV series Kojak. o The two streets mentioned were Hammett Avenue and Chandler Street; authors Dashell Hammett and Raymond Chandler created Spade and Marlowe, respectively. o Also, Marv of "Marv's Scarves" looked and sounded like actor Peter Lorre, who was in the movie version of The Maltese Falcon that starred Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade. (In the Bogart version of The Big Sleep, two of the characters are named Peter and Sidney, named for Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, who usually appeared together in Bogart films.) |

| After Phoebe farts when she's accepting an award in front of the entire school, she vows never to return to P.S. 118
Written by Michelle Lamoreaux, Steve Viksten Storyboard Direction by Tim Parsons Animation Direction by Christine Kolosov Storyboard Artists: Caesar Martinez, Diane Kredensor, Kelly James Assistant Storyboard Artists: Louis C. Gallegos, Elyse Whittaker-Paek, Jason Sellin Cast: Arnold - Spencer Klein Helga - Francesca Smith Phoebe - Anndi McAfee Harold - Justin Shenkarow Rhonda - Olivia Hack Sid - Sam Gifaldi Stinky - Christopher Walberg Brainy - Craig Bartlett Mr. Simmons - Dan Butler Principal Wartz - David Wohl Kyo Heyerdahl (Phoebe's father) - George Takei Reba Heyerdahl (Phoebe's mother) - Jean Smart Lunch lady - Danica Ivancevic * The award Phoebe receives spells her last name "Heyerdahl", although an earlier episode spelled it "Hyerdahl" on her school record. * Speaking of the award, it says that Phoebe received it in July and August...when the school is closed for the summer. * Phoebe hasn't missed a school day in years? Not even when she broke her leg in "Phoebe Breaks A Leg"? * In the scene with everybody in Phoebe's house, it almost looks like Phoebe's mother is in a wheelchair, but if you look closely, the "wheels" on the chair are only half-wheels - it's just the way the wooden chair is designed. (Besides, she could walk just fine in "Parents Day" and "Phoebe Cheats".) |
