Lily Chen-Hafteck is currently the Music Education Coordinator at Kean University, NJ, USA. Originally from Hong Kong, she has a doctorate in Music Education from the University of Reading in the U.K. and has had teaching and research positions at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, University of Surrey Roehampton in the U.K. and Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong. Before teaching at universities, she has taught music to students of different ages: from preschool to high school. She has published many articles in journals such as International Journal of Music Education, Music Education Research, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music and Early Childhood Connections, and is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Music Education. She has presented papers and workshops at many international and national conferences such as ISME (International Society for Music Education), South African Orff Association, Hong Kong Society for Music Education, MENC and NJMEA. She served in the Early Childhood Commission of ISME during 1996-2002 and was its Chair during 2000-2002. At present, she is on the ISME Board of Directors and the Chair of ISME Youth Focus Group. |
