Part Two Angel walked around her room, wobbling slightly on her high heels. She had bought the black patent stilettos before the Samuel Incident and was determined to wear them, seeing as how this was the first time she was going to get out of her house besides for when she went to work. She stood in front of the mirror, actually pleased with the way she looked. She had decided against wearing a dress, but the black stretch slacks she had chosen to wear were flattering, especially because they hugged her butt just right and flared at the knee just like they were supposed to. They skimmed the top of her foot and all that could be seen of her shoes was the pointy toe and that wonderful stiletto heel. She smiled, happy that the shimmery red fabric of the halter she had donned complimented her dark brown, shoulder length hair and her dark brown eyes. She leaned towards the mirror to fix her lipstick and noticed how puffy her eyes were, even though she had forced herself to stop crying while she was in the shower by telling herself all the great things that could come out of going to the opening of the club. She glided the cranberry lipstick over her full lips and pressed them together. She was done, she was ready, and she was nervous. Angel began pacing around her room. What if Samuel was there? No, she told herself, he wouldn’t show his cheating face at a shindig he knew she had been invited to attend. What if she wasn’t witty enough for the show dogs? What if she made a fool of herself? What if, what if, what if… Just when Angel was having third and fourth thoughts about going, she heard a soft knock on her door. “Are you ready, Angel?” It was Natalie. “Uh… yeah… Come on in.” Angel stood up and smiled brightly when Natalie opened the door and stepped into her room. Natalie had put her curly black hair in a high ponytail and was wearing a blue and white swirled sequin sleeveless top with black pants and low heeled pointy toe boots. Her blue eyes sparkled like the sequins on her shirt. She didn’t get to go out very much because of her job. She ran a trendy boutique and was always working long and late hours. Natalie smiled. “You look… absolutely fabulous. I am so glad you decided to buy that halter.” “So am I.” Jamie walked in behind Natalie. “Wow, Angel, you look so good I would go straight for you.” He laughed and picked a piece of lint off of his dark blue button down shirt. It complimented his dark blue eyes and his short reddish blonde hair. He had on khaki’s and brown loafers. He was an aspiring actor and was looking forward to schmoozing with some big names. He was also gay and looking forward to seeing some really cute boys. Jade fluttered into the room, wearing a jade colored top with long sheer sleeves and a short black leather skirt. “Y’all about ready to go?” Her jaw dropped when she saw how stunning Angel looked. “Wow, Angel, you look so beautiful.” All Angel could do was blush. Finally she said, “Well, I am ready if you are, but I’m driving.” They all went outside and climbed into Angel’s dark blue Mustang. The ride downtown was quiet, the air filled mostly with anticipation and the hard-hitting bass from the trance songs Angel liked to listen to when she was driving. As Angel pulled up to the nightclub, she was shocked at the turnout. It wasn’t early, actually, it was almost 11 o’clock, and there was a line that stretched for a block and a half. She glanced at her passengers who were equally amazed. The only thing Angel could think while she was looking for a place to park her car was I hope this is worth it. |
