The Half-Century Project

What is the Half-Century Project?

My grandfather was a good story teller.  When he would get into the story, you would see excitement and enthusiasm.  It was a marvel to see and hear.  My dad was also a story teller, but he would spin a yarn and somewhere along the way, you would realize that you had been had, because he just made the stuff up.  An interesting way to entertain.

Life is filled with boring mundane stuff that is occasionally punctuated by the ridiculous and sublime.  Great joys and great sorrows.  It is my task here to attempt to channel that story telling abilities of my grandfather and my dad.  One difference that I have is that I do not feel the need to make stuff up.  I've got a good memory and there's good material to cover.

This material mostly covers my life and my perspective on life.  I write about that because that's what I know.  My life is somewhere between ordinary and extraordinary.  I'm not famous.  I'm not rich.  I'm not powerful.  I'm just me.

By the way, I've got my flaws.  There are things that I need to work on.

I hope that some of this material entertains and informs.  If you read some of it and you're not interested, then move on along.  If you think that I can do better, fine, send me some pointers.  If you think that you can write more interesting stories than I can, then feel free to spend the time.  I'm finding that this does take a fairly intensive amount of work.  Some of this will evolve over time.  I am in the first pass where I try to just capture as many different things that I can.  Later on, I'll start editing to tighten up and focus the material.  This will be interesting to me, because I plan to not only share the stories, but to share the writing process.

There may be periods of time that I get busy with work or family where there is little to no activity.  Life happens.
