Hahzaah! One of the few sequels that's an improvement on the original! But, the start of this movie is more of a remake than a recap! Instead of Ash and four buddies fighting evil in a cabin, we are instead treated to a shortened version involving Ash and his girlfriend at the cabin. The girlfriend is possessed, resurrected, and then cut in half! Meanwhile, a group of snobbish archeologists and their redneck saviors are 'en route' to the very same cabin! Ash gets into an orgy of insanity as he's laughed at by an evil dead deer head, and assaulted by his own hand! He cuts the bugger off, and is pestered by the damn thing throughout half the movie! The yuppies soon show up, everyone gets possessed/killed and another babe falls pray to the horny tree! Ash barely fights off being possessed himself, and he and the remaining yuppy bust out the ol' Necronomicon, and send the demons back to their own DIE-mension (haha). But, not before the yuppy gets stabbed in the back by Ash's severed hand! Ash and his car are also sucked into the next dimension, setting up for the more 'bally-hoo'ed (?!) "Army of Darkness". This is possibly my favorite movie of ALL time! Recorded or pre-recorded time! This flick's got an (over)abundance of gore, and Ash replacing his hand with... A CHAINSAW!!!!!! Possibly the coolest thing EVER in the "history" of cinema! I tried it, but couldn't get the saw to start... oh well, despite what people say, severed limbs DO grow back. Thanks to this film, I will NEVER take Sam Raimi's life! I do, however, make no such promises for TED Raimi! DIE JOXTRAP!
DVD X-tras:s: This is the updated version of the EVIL DEAD 2 "DVD X-tras", following the acquisition of my EVIL DEAD 2 collector's edition DVD! It comes complete in a handy collector's tin (actually, it's not very handy, it just looks cool), collector's booklet about the movie, and a small poster reproduction! As for the disc itself, it now has a trailer; a behind-the-scenes featurette called "the Gore the Merrier", which includes, "the only existing footage of Ash eating a squirrel" and a comical RE-ANIMATOR spoof put together by the FX crew called "Evil Dead Baby"; a quick preview of the upcoming "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" video game; a gallery of stills from both the flick and behind-the-scenes; bios for both Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi (who were actually born in the same hospital!); and the best part: a greatly amusing commentary track featuring Campbell, Raimi, co-writer Scott Spiegel, and FX artist Greg Nicotero! Here we learn about the movie's original 'X' rating (trimmed down though, because they made much of the blood green or black... don't ask me, the MPAA is fucked in the skull) as well as the reason the flick is more of a remake than a recap (they couldn't get the rights to the original film from HBO so they could show a recap of the first, so they just remade the important stuff and went from there)! Now, I just gotta find someone stupid enough to buy my crappy DVD version WITHOUT all the cool extras...
