Well, Tristar put this out the year following the DRACULA remake from Columbia... this one wasn't as good. Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining, but Deniro as the monster felt like an insult! If you don't already know the story, let's get burning! It's the story of Vic Frankenstein (wahoo! Kenny Branagh!), as told by him to an Arctic exploration crew. Vic's life started off shitty as his mom died in labor for him. This motivates Vic to find a way to stop death (bring it on Doc!) so no one will have to suffer such a loss again. Well, Vic goes off to college where he and his avant-garde teacher, Prof. Waldman (John Cleese!), toy with the idea of animating the dead. Well, Waldman kicks the proverbial bucket when Deniro stabs him to death. After creating a superfrog, Vic turns one of the most celebrated actors of our time into a patchwork corpse revived with eels... Vic returns home, where he marries his sister (ewww!) and thinks the monster dead of Cholera. But, Deniro's different parts give him different talents (including speech and playing the violin) and he hunts Vic, killing his family and forcing Vic to make his newly-dead wife into another monster. But, Lizenstein (the she-monster) burns herself (dead)alive, and Vic hunts Deniro to the North Pole, where they both die in a funeral pyre. Good movie, but you can't cheat death! I'll get you sooner or later!
